Itinerary
Day 1 Board the Riverboat Delfin This morning you are welcomed at the airport and transferred to our private floating embarkation lounge and dock. As you enjoy cool tropical drink on the Observation Deck, you set sail on your Amazon expedition voyage. Day 2 Headwaters of the Amazon This morning you arrive at the junction of the Marañon and Ucayali rivers, where the main Amazon River is formed, and gray and pink dolphins play. Excursions include searching for two unique giant plants: the Victoria Regia water lily and the ceiba tree, as well as elusive squirrel and capuchin monkeys, sloths, terns, oriole blackbirds, wattled Jacanas and black collared hawks. Days 3 - 4 Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve The Pacaya-Samiria, the largest protected area in Peru is filled with rivers, lakes and palm swamps. Spend the day exploring the reserve and viewing its biodiversity. Look to encounter wild Amazonian fauna such as tanagers, toucans, macaws, parrots, egrets, hoatzins, herons, the rare harpy eagle, hummingbirds, the brilliant blue morpho butterfly, red howler, tamarin, capuchin and squirrel monkeys, three-toed sloths, giant river otters, manatees and turtles. Day 5 Ucayali River and Native Villages This morning visit a dolphin feeding spot, where you may swim with these endearing gray and pink creatures. It is time to meet the native inhabitants of the rainforest. So this afternoon you visit a couple of villages along the Ucayali river and its tributaries, where you have a chance to observe the daily life of the local people, learn about their millenary culture and traditions, bargain with them for their handcrafted goods. Day 6 Marañon River and Nauta Town Today you enter the Marañon River and explore the surrounding forest on terra firma trails, lined with tropical trees full of epiphytes, woody vines and palms. Along the Yarapa tributary, look for the peculiar crested Hoatzin, a prehistoric bird with olive colored plumage and claws. You also can get a bird’s eye view of the vast Amazonian canopy from a 150ft-high observation tower. Stop at the jungle town of Nauta and visit its interesting and exotic farmers’ market. Day 7 Depart Iquitos Today as you continue your cruise, along the shoreline you occasionally view small native villages—the last human outposts of the upper Amazon rainforest. You may visit one of them to learn more about the native inhabitants’ wisdom and spirituality, and complete your rainforest experience. You may also do some fishing, where the legendary piranha is the catch of the day.
After lunch, bid farewell to the Delfin and transfer by speedboat back to Iquitos for a guided tour of this bustling frontier city, the world’s furthest inland seaport. Later you are transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
