Tour Itinerary
Day 1
Meet at the Holiday Inn in Montpellier and transfer to 'Enchanté,' moored in the fishing village of Marseillan, for a champagne welcome. There is time for a relaxing stroll before dinner this evening. 'Enchanté' Barge D
Day 2
After breakfast, cruise to Portiragnes, stopping to visit the ancient town of Agde, which was a Greek trading post here in the fifth century. Visit the 12th-century Cathedral of St-Étienne, an imposing, fortified church with walls made of black volcanic stone. Day 3
Visit the delightful village of Pézenas, known for its association with the French playwright Molière. Later, 'Enchanté' cruises to the bottom of the Fonserannes Lock Staircase for overnight mooring at Béziers, which sits high atop a spur of rock beside the canal.'Enchanté' Barge B L D
Day 4
This morning, cruise across the aqueduct over the River Orb to ascend the seven-lock staircase before reaching the world's oldest canal tunnel at Malpas. Day 5
After breakfast, explore Narbonne, a former Roman capital and home to the Visigoth monarchs. Wander the Archbishop's Palace and indoor market with time to absorb the relaxed atmosphere. Return to 'Enchanté' for lunch and an afternoon cruise, stopping at the 500-year-old canalside vineyard of Domaine de Guery. Day 6
Visit the great walled city of Carcassonne, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. There is time to wander in the old town, called La Cité. Extraordinarily well-preserved, it looks much as it did at the end of the Middle Ages.
