Tour Itinerary
Days 1-2: USA or Canada/Copenhagen, Denmark
Depart by overnight flight to Copenhagen. On arrival, transfer by private vehicle to your hotel for an afternoon at leisure. This evening, meet fellow travellers for drinks and a welcome dinner in the fairy tale atmosphere of Tivoli Gardens. Hotel D'Angleterre D
Day 3: Copenhagen/Frederiksborg/Copenhagen
Drive through the lovely countryside of North Zealand to Hillerød, where you visit Frederiksborg, a richly decorated royal castle steeped in the history of the Danish kings. Built in Renaissance style in the 17th century, the castle was devastated by a fire in 1859 and completely renovated with funds from the Carlsberg Foundation. After lunch, explore the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, as famous for its beautiful seaside location as it is for the pieces in its collection. Day 4: Copenhagen
See the Amalienborg Palace, a royal residence since 1784, as well as the famous statue of the Little Mermaid. At Rosenborg Palace, the Renaissance palace of Christian IV, view the crown jewels in its spectacular museum. Then listen to a lecture by a guest speaker who discusses the history of Denmark and its kings. The afternoon is yours to spend as you please. Day 5: Visby, Sweden
On the Swedish island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea, explore the stone walls and towers of medieval Visby. It has a fascinating history and is a clean, pretty city with numerous parks, gardens and flowers. Since the end of the 19th century, the ruins of this medieval stone city have been protected as historical monuments, and Visby retains the best-preserved stone wall in northern Europe. Day 6: Tallinn, Estonia
The ancient walled city of Tallinn, capital of Estonia, was divided in medieval times into the High City and the Low City. Wander along cobbled lanes to observe the maze of spires, turrets and medieval walls of the Russian and Presbyterian cathedrals and churches and see the period mansions of this former Hanseatic trading city. Later, attend a zither concert to hear a selection of Estonian folk music played on this traditional instrument. MS 'Seven Seas Voyager' B L D
Day 7-9: St. Petersburg, Russia
St. Petersburg is an elegant city on the banks of the Neva River. See St. Isaac's Cathedral's golden dome that dominates the city and visit the Peter and Paul Fortress, designed by Peter the Great. Formerly a political prison, its famous inmates included Trotsky, Gorky, Lenin's older brother and even Peter's own son. Observe the opulence of the Yusupov Palace, a marvel of 18th- and 19th-century architecture that lies on a quiet stretch of the Moika River. At the Hermitage Museum in the Winter Palace, witness the priceless collection of Impressionist art that is unveiled as well as objets d'art that reflect the glory of Imperial Russia. Head into the countryside, where you explore the grounds of the golden-domed Baroque Catherine Palace and visit its recreated Amber Room. Catherine's husband Peter the Great, following a trip to Versailles in France, decided to build a palace to rival it. The result was Petrodvorets, and your Day ends with a visit to this lavish complex of palaces, flowing cascades and sweeping gardens. MS 'Seven Seas Voyager' B L D
Day 10: Helsinki, Finland
The ship stops in Helsinki, where the influence of its Russian neighbor is unmistakable. Visit Senate Square and the Uspenski Cathedral. After some time for shopping, return to your ship for dinner on board. MS 'Seven Seas Voyager' B L D
Day 11: Stockholm, Sweden
Disembark in Stockholm and explore the "Venice of the North," with its quaint Old Town. Visit the almost 400-year-old Vasa warship that was discovered intact at the bottom of the sea, the Nobel Prize rooms in City Hall and Drottningholm Palace, home of the Swedish royal family. Day 12: Stockholm
