Immerse yourself in China’s diverse cultures
China is a legendary land, a time capsule with ancient cultures and modern miracles. For ten days you can discover the mysteries of the Great Wall, enjoy a family-hosted lunch in the old residential area of Beijing, and visit the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai, the highest tower in Asia. Explore Xi’an, site of one of the most significant archaeological excavations of the 20th century, the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses. See the China of picture books, complete with narrow streets, simple and elegant homes, teahouses and intriguing shops in the charming town of Tongli.

Itinerary
DAY 1: Depart Home Gateway City to Beijing
DAY 2: Beijing Arrive in Beijing and be greeted by a Uniworld representative who will escort you to the Sheraton Hotel.
DAY 3: Beijing Featured Excursion: Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Summer Palace and Peking Duck Feast Tour the Forbidden City, a 250-acre complex of palaces, pavilions, courtyards and gardens. It’s the most complete ancient imperial palace in the world. Visit Tiananmen Square, the heart of Beijing. Walk through the Tiananmen Gate, the “Gate of Heavenly Peace,” and the entranceway to the Forbidden City. Continue on to another Beijing gem, the Summer Palace, one of China’s largest and best-preserved imperial gardens. At the end of the day, indulge in a succulent Peking Duck dinner. (BB, L, D)
DAY 4: Beijing Featured Excursion: Great Wall, Ming Tombs and Beijing Opera In the morning, travel 40 miles north of Beijing to the Great Wall. To walk this wonder of the ancient world is truly memorable. The original construction began in the 3rd century BC as a way to keep out warring invaders. Additional sections extended the wall over the centuries to its present length of nearly 4,000 miles. Before your return to Beijing, travel the Sacred Way, home to the remnants of the Ming Tombs, the once lavish burial chambers of 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty. DAY 5: Beijing, fly to Xi’an Featured Excursion: Rickshaw ride through the Hutongs and lunch Ride in a rickshaw for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Hutongs (ancient lanes and alleyways), located in the old residential area of Beijing. Enjoy a family-hosted lunch, and then fly to Xi’an in the afternoon and be taken to the Sheraton Hotel. (BB, L, D)
DAY 6: Xi’an Featured Excursion: Terra Cotta Warriors, Big Wild Goose Pagoda, dumpling lunch, and Tang Dynasty dinner and show Xi’an is the site of one of the most significant archaeological excavations of the 20th century, the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses. After your amazing exploration of these fabulous sculptures, visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a well-preserved ancient building and a holy place for Buddhists. In the evening, indulge in a Tang Dynasty dinner and cultural show featuring music, dance, and traditional costumes. (BB, L, D)
DAY 7: Xi’an, fly to Shanghai to Tongli to Suzhou Featured Excursion: Tongli tour and native music and dance performance Fly to Shanghai and travel to Tongli en route to Suzhou. A charming town, Tongli boasts a picturesque collection of ancient bridges crisscrossing meandering rivers. In the evening, enjoy a gala at the Garden of the Master of the Fishing Nets in Suzhou, including a special performance of native classical music and dance. This is a rare opportunity to experience a truly intimate and memorable evening. Spend the evening at the Shangri-La Hotel. (BB, L, D)
DAY 8: Suzhou to Shanghai Featured Excursion: Garden of the Humble Administrator The beautiful waterside city of Suzhou is known for its magnificent gardens, silk and embroidery. The gardens are delicate designs of hills and ponds, terraces, corridors and towers. Wander through the Garden of the Humble Administrator covering over 12 acres. These gardens are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and were originally built in 1509 during the Ming Dynasty. After your visit here, you’ll board a traditional boat and cruise the 1,000-year-old canals. Learn about silk manufacturing and visit the Embroidery Institute. In the late afternoon, travel to Shanghai and transfer to the Regal International Hotel. (BB, L, D)
DAY 9: Shanghai Featured Excursion: Shanghai city tour and Shanghai Acrobat Performance Shanghai is a striking blend of cultures. European-style buildings stand alongside Chinese structures and ancient temples. Today, you’ll stroll through Old Town, then along the Bund, Shanghai’s famed waterfront promenade. Enjoy the peaceful Yu Yuan Gardens and visit the Oriental Pearl TV Tower with its distinctive artistic spheres representing “large and small pearls dropping onto a jade plate.” The highest tower in Asia, this unique site with revolving teahouse and sightseeing platform offers a fantastic view of the Bund.
