Zegrahm Expeditions Cruise

We created ZEGRAHM EXPEDITIONS in October 1990 for one clear reason: to offer travelers the most intriguing adventures in our world, whether by land or sea. Because of our experience in adventure travel, you can rest assured that when we say adventure, we're not talking about the windward side of an island in the Caribbean. We're talking about the unfrequented Northwest and Northeast Passages, the great continent of Antarctica, and in-depth sojourns in the islands of the South Pacific and Indian Oceans.

While we believe expedition yachts and small ships to be one of the best methods of environmentally responsible travel, there are some areas off the beaten path that can't be reached by ship. Our Eco-Expeditions allow us to share these land destinations with our travelers by utilizing other modes of transportation, always considering the environmental implications and safety first.

We keep the number of travelers on each expedition small to allow members personal contact with their leaders and naturalist experts, making each trip truly expeditionary in nature. Most expeditions are led by one or more of ZEGRAHM's experienced founders.

Join us as we explore the fascinating far reaches of the world - Antarctica, the Galápagos, the Arctic, the South Pacific and Indian Oceans - via a fleet of exclusively chartered sailing ships, icebreakers and yachts. Accompany us to Botswana, India, Mongolia and Madagascar on one of our intimate, expertly led land programs. Our expeditions operate year-round, and our destinations include the most remote and remarkable on earth.

Destinations

Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands
This 21-day Antarctica cruise sails from Argentina to the spectacular Antarctic Peninsula and Elephant Island, the little-known natural wonderland of South Georgia, and finishes in the Falkland Islands. Join us as we journey through this thrilling land of penguins, icebergs, and Sir Ernest Shackleton.

Lords of Antarctica: Emperor Penguins of the Weddell Sea
Emperor penguins are the only birds that breed on the Antarctic ice, and to see them in their natural environment is one of the most amazing wildlife spectacles on the planet. Aboard an icebreaker, we will negotiate the Weddell Sea's barrier of pack ice for up-close views of these amazing birds, as well as the spectacular scenery of the southern continent.

New Zealand and Its Sub-Antarctic Islands
Explore New Zealand's North and South Islands aboard the Clipper Odyssey. Fascinating plant and animals, including the Fiordland crested penguin and Hector's dolphins, abound. A special highlight of our expedition is three days in the remote sub-Antarctic islands, home to thousands of seabirds, including sooty shearwaters, Buller's albatross, and yellow-eyed penguins.

Stepping Stones of the Atlantic: Stanley to Dakar
This voyage, which can be combined with Conquistadors of the Atlantic, is a first-time departure for Zegrahm Expeditions. Travel from the Falklands and South Georgia across the Atlantic to Africa. En route, we land on remote islands and explore the Gambia River and the Senegal coast. No other program we offer covers as wide a range of ecosystems and cultures.

Africa By Air
A one-of-a-kind epic journey that spans the length of Africa. Travel aboard a exclusively chartered DC-4 propliner and explore the natural and cultural wonders of the continent, from South Africa to the Ethiopia.

Botswana and Ultimate Botswana
If you want to experience Africa, it has to be Botswana, Africa's Last Eden. Journey with us on a very special safari as we go in search of the creatures that have lured people to Africa for hundreds of years - lions, elephants, hippos and vast herds of plains antelopes...

Cape to Casablanca
An epic journey that spans the length of Africa. Travel aboard an exclusively chartered Convair 580 propliner and explore the natural and cultural wonders of the continent, from South Africa to the legendary, romantic city of Casablanca.

Conquistadors of the Atlantic: Dakar to Lisbon
This voyage, which can be combined with Stepping Stones of the Atlantic, is a first-time departure for Zegrahm Expeditions. Our itinerary includes Senegal, the Canaries and Cape Verde, Morocco, Spain, and Portugal. Immerse yourself in a wondrous mix of cultures and a stunning array of wildlife and scenery.

South Africa My Way: The Hidden Secrets of South Africa with Lesotho and Mozambique
Since 2000, Zegrahm's Nadia Eckhardt has designed and led expeditions presenting the nearly inexhaustible variety of her native land. For 2004 she has revised the itinerary to include locations in Lesotho, the Drakensberg Mountains, Mozambique, the Kalahari Desert, and the Wild Coast.

South Africa My Way: The Best of South Africa with Swaziland
South African native Nadia Eckhardt, one of the most experienced travel leaders in the world, has designed an expedition presenting the best her homeland has to offer. Come with Nadia for a special look at the intricate tapestry of South Africa, a "world in one country."

Across the Top of the World: The Transpolar Bridge by Icebreaker
A 21-day journey across the top of the world, from ocean to ocean, to the North Pole and Northeast Passage aboard the nuclear icebreaker Yamal. Our vessel's capabilities allow us to cut through pack ice up to 15 feet thick, and we've assembled a team of naturalists, scientists, and historians for an unsurpassed polar adventure.)

Sea of Okhotsk: Hokkaido, Sakhalin, Siberia, Kamchatka, Kuril Islands, and Bering Island
We return to Russia's Sea of Okhotsk for two explorations of this long off-limits region. You'll find untouched forests, whale-filled seas, and millions of migrating seabirds, all set against a backdrop of hundreds of volcanoes.

Wild Alaska
Witness firsthand many of the natural wonders of Alaska, a place the Aleut called the "Great Country," on a 14-day journey aboard the Clipper Odyssey. Our voyage includes landings among the Pribilofs and Aleutians, as well as stops at historic villages and nature reserves. Everywhere during our expedition, Alaska's bounty is manifest around us - waterfalls, rivers, and fjords; spectacular bays; dense forests; dramatic marine geological formations; and towering coastal mountains.

The Kimberley: A Voyage to the Australian Outback
Join us as we return to one of the world's most remote and captivating areas: the Kimberley region of Australia's Outback. Together, we'll explore the land's hidden treasures, searching for opportunities to photograph a multitude of creatures, including dugongs, rock wallabies, and the mighty saltwater crocodile.

Europe

Circumnavigation of the Black Sea
Our Circumnavigation of the Black Sea aboard Le Ponant visits Eurasia's most intriguing coastlines - Turkey, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Bulgaria - and explores outstanding architectural and archeological monuments, six World Heritage Sites, and varied natural habitats ranging from beaches to fertile river delta wetlands to alpine environments.

Crossroads of Empires: Cairo to Crete
We follow in the tradition of Mediterranean merchant vessels as we explore Egypt, Cyprus, Turkey, and Greece. Our voyage includes the fascinating Aegean and Mediterranean coasts of Turkey; the fabled Roman mosaics of Cyprus; and enchanting Crete, historic homeland of the Minoans.

Mediterranean Under Sail
Sail aboard Le Ponant on expeditions focusing on archeological and cultural explorations in a region that once was a cradle of Western civilization. Among the highlights will be our landings along seldom-visited Albania and the Dalmatian Coast. Mediterranean Under Sail explores a number UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Voyages may be taken separately or in combination.

Indian Ocean

Madagascar: The Eighth Continent
From the most ancient of all living primates, the exotic lemur, to the world's smallest vertebrate, the thumbnail-sized chameleon, Madagascar reigns supreme. Separated from the east coast of Africa millions of years ago, this island kingdom is now home to a vast array of wildly strange creatures and plants.

Seychelles & Madagascar
These Indian Ocean expeditions offer days of sailing sparkling waters punctuated by encounters with fabulous endemic wildlife ashore. The magnificent coral reefs of the Seychelles present superb snorkeling and diving opportunities; our landings in Madagascar will place us amid plants and animals that developed in splendid isolation.

Ultimate Seychelles
Our 2003 Ultimate Seychelles voyages garnered wildly enthusiastic praise from our passengers and our expedition staff. Photographers, naturalists, snorkelers, and divers all found themselves enraptured by the richness of the terrestrial and marine environments. Based on this overwhelming response we've decided to reprise this voyage for 2004.

North America

Circumnavigation of Newfoundland
Discover the dramatic seascapes and landscapes of the world's sixteenth largest island aboard Le Levant. Our in-depth exploration reveals rugged coastline boasting unique geology, profuse wildlife, and archeological sites dating as far back as 9,000 years.

South Pacific

The Best of Papua New Guinea, Palau, & Yap
This expedition provides a comprehensive experience of a remote and diverse area of the western South Pacific. The islands of Melanesia and Micronesia are located far off the beaten path, where exceptional snorkeling and diving, hiking and tidepool viewing, and birding and botanizing all complement our exploration of indigenous cultures. An optional combo land program further explores the Best of Palau and Yap.
Beyond Rapa Nui: Easter Island, Pitcairns, Tuamotus,
Marquesas, Australs, Cook Islands, Tonga, Wallis and Futuna, Fiji

Our South Pacific itineraries, taken singly or in combination, present fantastic snorkeling and diving, incredible varieties of wildlife, and spellbinding encounters with Polynesian and Melanesian peoples. Experience the low-lying coral atolls of the Tuamotu Archipelago, the enormous stone heads of Easter Island, isolated Pitcairn Island, the bird-rich Marquesas, and colorful Tonga and Fiji.

Central & South America

Best of Brazil
This South American safari will immerse you into Brazil's stunning biodiveristy. You will encounter some of the planet's rarest primates, a host of other rain forest mammals, and more than 400 bird species. A highlight is four days exploring the Pantanal, the world's largest wetland area. Expect to see huge numbers of exotic water birds, herds of capybara, and large concentrations of caimans.

Galápagos My Way
Zegrahm cofounder Jack Grove has drawn on his years of experience in the Galápagos to create an itinerary that showcases both the terrestrial and marine wonders of the legendary archipelago. Join him aboard a specially designed 36-passenger yacht for a unique exploration of the Enchanted Isles.

Patagonia
Remote, seldom-visited, and largely untamed, Patagonia lies at the very tip of South America. Highlights of our expedition include the stunning Valdés Peninsula, with its hordes of elephant seals, sea lions, Magellanic penguins, and southern right whales, and the otherworldly landscapes of Torres del Paine National Park. Here, among the spellbinding jumble of towering spines, majestic volcanic peaks, and forested ridges, we should spy condors, Patagonia foxes, vicuñas, and guanacos.

India / Asia

Borneo: Land of the Orangutan
We invite you to accompany us on a land program safari to Borneo. Our action-packed itinerary includes river excursions to spot proboscis monkeys and orangutans; nighttime forays for possible encounters with flat-headed cats, flying lemurs, and saltwater crocodiles; and hikes to look for hornbills, trogons, and macaques.

Burma & Laos
Our Burma and Laos itinerary covers the finest cultural and natural sites in these remote countries, including Shwedagon Pagoda, the temples of Bagan, the floating gardens of Inle Lake, and the Ayeyarwady River.

India & Nepal
After many successful years of leading tiger safaris to India, we've expanded our program to include the Himalayan kingdom of Nepal. The result is an expedition that includes a rich tapestry of wildlife plus an intoxicating mix of temples, colorful history, and culture.

Treasures of Japan
Discover with us Japan by Sea, an exciting odyssey designed to explore the cultural highlights, natural attractions, and dramatic coastlines of Okinawa, the Inland Sea, Kyushu, and Honshu Islands. From unusual bird species to elegant court dancers, from ancient shrines to exquisite formal gardens, this voyage offers a bounty of Japanese riches.

Snow Monkeys and Cranes
Our first-ever Snow Monkeys and Cranes expedition provides an opportunity to enjoy a Japan that few Westerners experience: Japan in winter. For photographers and aficionados of wildlife, people, and Japanese culture, this will be a memorable departure full of snow-filled landscapes punctuated by troops of dancing red-crowned cranes, flocks of sea eagles, and bathing snow monkeys.

Mongolia: Land of Chinggis Khaan
Our Mongolia expedition is an epic adventure of Indiana Jones proportions. You'll explore - via helicopter, horse, airplane, jeep, and camel - the beautiful temples, monasteries, deserts, and canyons of this great unspoiled land.
