A drive along the Costera Miguel Alemán offers a spectacular view of the bay and its grandest attractions. These include San Diego Fort, originally built to protect Acapulco from pirates; Cici, a water theme park for children; Papagayo Park, which offers a roller rink, Aviary, a racetrack for kids and model of a Spanish Galleon; and the Casa de la Cultura (Cultural Center), with an art gallery, handicraft exhibit and small archaeological museum.

Along the bay in Acapulco are 20 gorgeous beaches, and any type of water activitie you coulkd dream of. Sport fishing, sailing, (Acapulco has a huge Yacht Club), scuba diving, water-skiing and snorkeling, as well as great hiking, horseback riding, tennis and golfing.

Acapulco is also a famous romantic vacation destinations. Fiery sunsets, fine dining and gourgeous hotels havecontributed to Acapulco's romantic appeal.

Acapulco now has a English speaking tourist police force to assist any tourist in need. They are dressed in T-shirts displaying the, "Policia Turistica" logo, and Bermuda shorts.

Founded by the Nahua Indians (the predecessors of the Aztecs) around 3000 B.C., Acapulco was conquered by the Spaniard Hernán Cortes when the Aztec Empire fell in 1521.

Acapulco retained its importance as a world trading port for the next 400 years and during that time became a haven for pirates including Sir Francis Drake. Acapulco began its transformation to that of a vacation destination in the 1920's when the Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VIII, visited the bay on a fishing expedition.

Wealthy Mexicans, American writers, Hollywood Stars and European jet-setters soon flocked to Acapulco. It was here that Elizabeth Taylor married Mike Todd, John F. Kennedy and Brigitte Bardot honeymooned, and Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Harry Belafonte and Baron de Rothschild became regulars Acapulco vacationers. Today, Acapulco is one of the most exciting places in the world attracting those who love to play all day and stay up all night!


FUERTE DE SAN DIEGO

This amazing fort, built in the sixteenth century to protect the bay from pirate attacks, hosts a Museum with ten different showrooms with exhibits regarding the history of Acapulco.


WATER PARKS

Papagayo
There are three artificial lakes, children playground, pools with slides, a scenic train, skate rental, restaurants and parking lots.

This beach club offers many pools -one with artificial waves-, slides, shallow pools, seal and dolphin shows, aquarium, restaurant, bar and parking lot.

Located in downtown, this sensational aquarium offers exotic fish, sea lions, and an oceanography museum, among other attractions. There is also a beach club with pool, slides and sun bathing areas.


ACA ZOO

In this modern zoo located in the Roqueta Island where you may observe many animal species. It has a children playground, food court and swimming facilities.


NATURAL LANDSCAPES

Isla Roqueta
A beautiful island located in front of Caleta Beach. You can get there by crystal bottom boats, where you can see the marine fauna as well as the Virgin of Guadalupe (patron of fishermen) in the bottom of the sea.


Caleta

Located next to the Roqueta Island. It has calm waters, ideal for swimming and playing.


Tamarindo, Hornos and Hornitos

This beach, full of palm trees, is the best place to observe fishermen every morning. During visiting hours, local bands play pleasant tunes to visitors.


Condesa

This is the most visited beach on a Acapulco vacation. It is located right in the middle of the bay where young people create a joyful atmosphere of permanent celebration. Here, you will find all kinds of entertainment centers, restaurants and hotels for every budget. You can also enjoy water sports such as jet skies, boats and banana rentals, among others.


Puerto Marques

Located southeast of Acapulco, in a bay that bears the same name. This beach is ideal for family trips due to its calm waves. Entertainment is safe and secure, especially for kids. Here, you can practice all kinds of water sports, such as offshore fishing.

Next to this destination you will find the "Revolcadero" beach, an ideal beach for surfing, due to its strong waves.


Pie de la Cuesta

Only 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the bay you will find "Pie de la Cuesta", a splendid place to watch spectacular sunsets or take relaxing walks or horseback riding along the beach during you Acapulco vacation.


La Quebrada
 
The main Acapulco vacation attraction in these rocky cliffs is observing the brave divers jump into the sea, from a 35 meters (100 feet) above. The show is even more spectacular at night, when divers jump with torches in their hands.


Tres Palos

This spectacular lagoon is located very close to the airport. It is 15 kilometers (9 miles) wide and 6 kilometers (4 miles) long. It flows to the sea by a channel. It is an exotic landscape, framed by wild fauna and mangrove swamps.
