What to expect:
Designed in a distinctive Mexi-Caribe style that provides expansive, shaded open-air spaces and sea and lagoon views both large and small, the hotel displays a rough-concrete exterior enlivened by bright pink, blue, and yellow accents and monumental pieces such as huge white-concrete fruit, large balls, and random stands of colored columns.
Amenity highlights:
Beaches on the Caribbean Sea and Nichupté Lagoon, which separates Cancún Island from the mainland, offer both morning and afternoon sun. Pools and sundecks face sea and lagoon. Thickly cushioned teak lounge chairs provide sunbathing comfort. The health-and-beauty spa offers treatments in air-conditioned rooms, open-air "cabins" on stilts with raw-pole walls and thatch roofs, and open-air thatched-roof palapas on the beach.

The health-and-beauty spa provides massage, body wraps and scrubs, and facials--as well as hair and nail care and waxing--and includes a Vichy shower, women's and men's saunas and steam rooms, and a relaxation lounge containing a 3.75-meter-diameter (13-ft) spa tub. The spa's fitness center (daily surcharge) contains free weights, weight machines, and cardio machines with televisions and headphones. A mirror-lined workout studio offers complimentary spinning, aerobics, and Pilates classes. A business center includes three computers with high-speed Internet connections (surcharges).
On the lagoon side, a beach hut serves as headquarters for a children's club providing complimentary supervised activities (ages 4-12). A sweat lodge, known as a temazcal , on the lagoon beach features heated volcanic stones, aromatic scents, and soothing music (surcharge). The hotel purifies its water.
Complimentary shuttles transport guests 8 km (5 mi) to a companion resort, Sheraton Cancún Resort & Towers, which is located across the street from La Isla Mall, Cancún's signature open-air shopping, dining, and entertainment village. Recreation
The resort features two beaches, one extending 400 meters (437 yards) along the Caribbean Sea and providing morning sun and the other for afternoon sun extending 100 meters (109 yards) along Nichupté Lagoon, a large body of placid water fringed by mangrove forests lying between Cancún Island and the mainland.
Fresh-water swimming options comprise a 14-meter-square (45-ft) main pool and four triangular pools, two for children, arrayed along a 55-meter (180-ft) terrace. On the lagoon side, the resort features a terrace with a 21-by-5.25-meter (70-by-17-ft) pool cascading into a 7.5-by-6-meter (25-by-20-ft) pool; a sundeck; a deck shaded by trees; and five interlocking cool-water spa tubs on the beach.
Although swimming is not permitted in the lagoon, the resort provides complimentary pedal boats, kayaks, and Sunfish sailboats for use on the lagoon. Independent operators on the beach offer personal watercraft and parasailing. Other water sports are available at AquaWorld Marina on the lagoon 4 km (2.5 miles) away. Complimentary use of two rooftop artificial-grass tennis courts during the day, with a surcharge for night play.
