Quinta Real Guadalajara, Guadalajara Luxury Hotel

A soothing oasis in what has been described as “Mexico’s most Mexican city” (it is the birthplace of tequila, mariachis and the colorful gentlemen riders known as charros), the Quinta Real Guadalajara is reminiscent of a colonial-era hacienda, featuring antique-style furniture, original works of art, local crafts, stucco ceilings, ivy-covered pink stone walls and thoroughly modern facilities. Conveniently located in a residential area, just 20 minute from downtown, 30 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from Expo-Guadalajara, the hotel is popular with business and leisure travelers who use it as comfortable headquarters for discovering Guadalajara’s many attractions.

Attractions
Once nicknamed the country’s “biggest small town,” Guadalajara has registered astounding growth in recent decades. Yet, although it has become sophisticated and cosmopolitan, it remains a city of parks and fountains, of monuments and flower-lined boulevards. Famed for its talented artisans, for the crafts of the nearby village of Tlaquepaque and for the tequila distilleries in the town of Tequila, Guadalajara is also famous as the birthplace of José Clemente Orozco, one of the 20th centuries greatest artists, who did some of his best work here. It is one of Mexico’s most delightful areas for tourists because of its a marvelous climate—eternal springtime, with a rainy season for three months during the summer. But most important in attracting visitors is its evocation of the graciousness and gentility of old Mexico.
Sports
Bullfighting Guadalajara is the second major bullfight city in Mexico. Bullfights are held most Sundays, October to March, in the Plaza Nuevo Progreso ring.
Golf They say that scarcely a day passes that you cannot play golf in Guadalajara, and the number of courses in and around the city seems to prove that.
The 18-hole El Palomar Country Club serves an upscale residential community as well as the guests of the Hotel Quinta Real. The Guadalajara Country Club, the oldest and a traditional favorite, Atlas, Santa Anita and Las Cañadas are also among the leading golf clubs.
Nightlife
For a conservative town, Guadalajara has a thriving nightlife. There are small clubs, high-energy discos, and many of the local restaurants and bars offer nightly entertainment. Another option is to soak up the local ambience at Plaza de los Mariachis where roving bands of Mexico’s traditional musicians serenade. The Degollado Theater, Cabañas Cultural Institute and several other venues around town present various theater, dance and musical performance throughout the year.
Shopping
Guadalajara is one of the country’s best shopping cities, not only for the beautiful handicrafts produced in the area, especially Tlaquepaque and Tonalá, but also for shoes (two malls are filled only with shoe shops!), jewelry and tequila.
Special Events
Guadalajara’s major event is the Fiestas de Octubre, or October Festival, a month-long cultural extravaganza of concerts, ballet, opera, theater, art exhibits, movies, folk art expositions, music and dance. On October 12 the city celebrates the return of the Virgin of Zapopan to her home, in the Basilica of Zapopan, with a procession of thousands that starts out from the cathedral.
