Cordoba: You will find magnificent buildings, all of them in notorious Colonial style, of great architectural and historical importance. It is definitely worth visiting the Municipal Palace, the Immaculate Conception Temple, the Zevallos Portals and the "Favorita Museum".
MUNICIPAL PALACE
Built in 1905, originally constructed with two beautiful domes, was remodeled during the twentieth century, eliminating the domes and substituting them with a neoclassic style facade.
INMACULADA CONCEPCION TEMPLE
This church, also known as "La Purisima" is Cordoba's main temple. Built in a baroque style during the Colonial period, was later complemented with neoclassic elements.
The most outstanding part of this structure is the main altar, a jewel of considerable value, made of solid gold. Another beautiful piece is the silver "Sagrario". And finally the painting and sculpture pieces just as valuable as the rest of the temple.
ZEVALLOS PORTAL
The building that hosts this portal was built during the seventeenth century. Originally a hotel, today is as social center and restaurant for locals.
People talk about their everyday problems, business, chat or just observe; but no matter what they do, they always have a cup of coffee or the traditional "mint julep" made with spearmint and wine. This atmosphere is complemented with Mariachi music, marimbas and "jaraneros".
Even when the architectural value of this building is immeasurable, the most important aspect is its historical legacy, as it was right here where the Cordoba Treaties were signed, documents that helped the creation of Mexico.
TEATRO PEDRO DÍAZ
Built in 1896, has hosted many important spectacles from the very beginning. Today, it is a theatre and a movie theater.
"LA FAVORITA"
A Colonial house built between the seventieth and the ninetieth centuries. Therefore, it is built with different architectural styles. It is also known as the "Portal de la Gloria."
Named "La Favorita" (the favorite), after being selected among many others, to host distinguished visitors, such as Agustin de Iturbide, Maximiliano de Habsburgo and Benito Juarez.
Today, it hosts the Culture House and the City Museum, showing many works of art and important exhibits from the Olmeca and Totonaca cultures.
Here, you can walk across the extensive grounds, surrounded by beautiful gardens, ideal to rest, meditate or simply read a good book.
ORIZABA
Near the city of Cordoba, separated from it only by the Metlac Canyon, you will find the colorful region of Orizaba, the City of eternal rain. When you visit Orizaba, you should visit its two Municipal Palaces; the first one, with a peculiar Art Noveau ironworks, brought directly from Belgium and inaugurated during the National celebrations of 1894.
The second one, a classic monument of neoclassic style; was built during Porfirio Diaz government and used as a laborers school since those days, and later as the Municipal Palace.
Another interesting place is the Museum of Art, open since 1992. It shows about 611 art pieces such as paintings, lithographs and drawings distributed in 8 show rooms. It was built during the eighteenth century.
Do not forget to take a walk on the main plaza, where you will find local handicrafts, delicious food and souvenirs.
FORTIN DE LAS FLORES
You will find this village just 7 kilometers (4 miles) from Cordoba, which used to cultivate flowers for commercial purposes since early times. Due to its privileged climate, today it is one of Mexico's most important flower exporting and distributing centers.
Here, life is peaceful and relaxing. Therefore, it is highly recommended for resting, as it offers most of the necessary tourist facilities.
