Zihuatanejo End of year festivals NOTE: There is a wonderful air of festivity and celebration in the main plaza in Zihuatanejo between December 29 and 31 when the people take to the streets to celebrate popular and religious events. The fiestas take place in the evenings, with people dancing to live music under the stars as the skies light up with exploding fireworks.
Petatlán Palm Sunday NOTE: During Holy Week, the churches in Petatlán put on extra religious services, and the people from the neighboring towns and villages come and perform their traditional dances; others bring offerings of flowers and carry standards bearing the names of their villages.
Petatlán : The Day of Our Lord Jesus Christ On August 6, a play called ¿ Juego de Cortés ¿ (The Game of Cortés ) is presented in honor of Jesus Christ. It consists of a battle simulation in which the opposing sides dress in capes and fight each other with machetes. There are also dances, a fair with mechanical games and other forms of entertainment.
