Dances, competitions and rodeos are held from April 29 to May 1 during the Manzanillo fair, which commemorates the city's promotion to a deep-sea port.
Museums
Visiting Manzanillo's University Museum of Archaeology is an excellent way to explore the cultural past of the Mexican west. It displays over 1,800 figurines and dishes from the Comala , Capacha , Periquillos , Colima and Armería cultures, out of a collection of 18,000. Make sure you visit the reproduction of the two shaft tombs that correspond to the Comala phase that lasted from 300 to 500 AD. If you would like to take home a souvenir from Manzanillo , the Shell Museum carries a wide range of typical handicrafts made on the coast. You will also be able to watch artisans fashioning their beautiful craftwork.
Ecotourism
Adventure tourism enthusiasts can kayak around the calm waters of Manzanillo bay. Alternatively, you can ride around the marvelous tropical forests found inland. If you are attracted by mysterious, enclosed areas, you can discover the secrets of an unusual pre-Hispanic civilization in the pre-historic caves. Going on a guided photographic safari into the heart of the jungle will give you a close-up view of tropical fauna and flora, take you to natural pools where you can have a refreshing swim and offer you an impressive view of Manzanillo Bay, only available from the Tlacota Tropical Forest. You can also include snorkeling in your itinerary, beginning your adventure at Rancho El Naranjo , on the road to Mojahua , one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the state of Colima .
The Majahua Reserva
The purpose of building the Rancho Majahua ecological tourist center is to preserve and protect the fauna living on the almost virgin beach surrounded by jungle-like vegetation. This gently inclined beach with moderate-sized waves facing the open sea is inhabited by jaguars, wild boar, deer, turkeys, crocodiles, and marine birds.
Fishing
Sport fishing is Manzanillo's main attraction, particularly for sailfish fishing enthusiasts. Every November and February since 1954, Manzanillo has hosted the International Dorsey Tournament, a famous competition that awards winners valuable prizes.
The special, medium-sized boats available for hire in the port of Manzanillo allows sport fishing enthusiasts to sail in the high seas a short distance from the coast, where the depth of the water makes it perfect for catching large fish such as sailfish and black, striped and blue marlin. This gives Manzanillo a definite edge over other ports where you have to sail for two or three hours to reach the depths required for this sport.
Horseback Riding
The Hacienda de don Tomás Hacienda in Manzanillo has everything you need for horseback riding. A ride through the mountains will take you past spectacular scenery and a small Mexican village.
Sailing
Manzanillo has several marinas such as Playa Azul , La Audiencia and La Escondida that are worth visiting at night when the reflection of the boats' lights on the water is an attractive sight.
