Although it has not yet been declared a national park or a nature reserve, Cerro San Rafael, 3,700 m above sea level, located near Los Lirios, about 60 km southeast of Saltillo, is one of the highest in the north of Mexico, as a result of which it is covered in coniferous forest.
Pozas de Cuatrociénegas There are dozens of small, crystalline freshwater lakes and ponds in the ecologically protected valley of Cuatrociénagas. These are like desert "aquariums", with several species of animals such as desert turtles, visagras, hares, foxes, fish, and goshawks.
