I'm sorry I didn't get back to you. Yes we did go and had a great time. The resort is excellent...very nice room and the service was wonderful. We took an all day tour to see the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza. That is an amazing place. So thank you once again for selecting a perfect vacation destination. Could you do me a favor? I need to get a photo release form from the El Dorado Royale so that I can have two photographs made into wallet size. The photos were taken by the El Dorado Royale, hence the need for the release form. I tried emailing the resort but the address I used was returned undelivered. Testimonials about Patricia Mullen, Hawaii, Caribbean, Mexico, Tahiti Specialist: Cancun Hi Patricia, Back safe and sound!! We all had a GREAT time! Everything went extremely smooth. No problems at all with Continental. Olympus Tours was great...there waiting for us. The RIU Caribe was nice. We had to wait about an hour and a half when we checked in as our rooms weren't ready yet....not a problem. First the Bad: The hotel lobby was very open and welcoming, the rooms were a little dated, not a lot of bureau space and we found the beds to be hard and uncomfortable. The fitness center was very disappointing for a resort this size. (only two tread mills and a couple of other machines; surprisingly no towels available) We ended up running outside the resort. They have a wonderful running/walking/biking path that runs along the main road that is widely used. We were a little disappointed in the lack of evening entertainment. The resort only had one venue for entertainment and if you didn't get there 1/2 hour before the show started or you had to stand. If we didn't venture outside the resort, we found the evenings a little on the boring side. That is all the negative I've got for the place....everything else was great! Now the Good!: The Beach was absolutely beautiful....the sand was fine and clean and the water was warm yet refreshing. The pool area was really nice, and there was plenty of activities, such as organized pool volleyball; water aerobics; and various games. The service was second to none....very kind and courteous staff...they bent over backwards to get you what you want. The food while not exactly gourmet was palatable....a wide selection on the buffet. They have 3 other restaurants beside the buffet. We went to all three. The Mexican restaurant....food was good, service was slow for some reason. The Steak House....They convert the outside, poolside bar area into the restaurant at night. Decent meal, the steak was a little thin, but tasty. Baked Alaska for dessert...they do a little fire show with the baked Alaska table side and it seemed like they inadvertently got some sterno fuel on the dessert rendering it inedible. The Asian Restaurant was our favorite. Wasn't all that authentic, but it was still pretty good....the fried Ice Cream was really good. One of the best things was that we could go to the other RIU properties. For a 6 peso ( 60 cents) 5 minute city bus ride we could be at the RIU Cancun (A very nice property....definitely a step up from the Caribe). We went there twice for their buffet, which we found to be better than that of the Caribe's. We ventured out on two excursions while we were there. First I want to commend Olympus Tours....they were extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating! First we set up an all day catamaran trip to the Isle Mujeres Again, a 5 minute city bus to the marina, on the Catamaran by 10am.
The crew was GREAT!...funny and our beer cups were never empty. We sailed over to the island reef (took about an hour and a half). We snorkeled on the reef for about 45 minutes and saw all kinds of cool fish. From there we sailed into the island port where we got off and ventured into the town market....typical tourist fare....merchants galore willing to negotiate on EVERYTHING! After about and hour and a half we sailed to a private small resort type compound (the owner of the boat reportedly owns it)....they provided lunch and drinks, after an hour or so we were back on the boat sailing back to Cancun...Tequila shots and all. Got back around 5pm....so it was pretty much an all day affair.....absolute blast would recommend this to everyone. The second excursion we went on was a place called "Selvatica"....about and hour van ride from the resort....this place was awesome. It's located out in the middle of the jungle and consists of 11 zip lines through the jungle. After that we biked about a mile to a flooded sink hole were we swam for a while. They had a zip line over the water you could jump from....very fun! Then biked back and they provided lunch and we proceeded back to the resort back by 1 pm. A really great excursion and it doesn't take all day. We would definitely recommend this to everyone as well. They do have the option of riding dune buggies instead of doing the bike thing, but they were unavailable at the time of our booking. The weather: The weather was great the first 3 or 4 days, then it turned very windy and somewhat cool (low 70s not the mid 80s as was the case the first couple of days) and overcast....until, of course, the last day. It rained only once and that was during the evening. I would most definitely suggest to buy any souvenirs at the markets rather than the airport... All in all a GREAT vacation and would definitely recommend. I hope this isn't too much or too little info. I want to thank you for all of your help and the Conde Nast subscription. Hi Gretchen Well.... we had a wonderful holiday!! I'm not sure how happy we are to be back, especially since we arrived back to a Canadian snowstorm but apparently summer is thinking about starting so hopefully we'll be able to show off our tans soon! Thank you so much for your help and advice during the planning stages! It really made it painless. The El Dorado Maroma was wonderful - quiet, relaxing, great service and yummy food! We stayed in a Hotelito which was lovely - quite small and compact but perfectly big enough for the two of us. We thought about upgrading to one of the Jacuzzi suites but decided not to, but we did see one. They are much bigger and more airy. They're quite modern and therefore a bit cold but nicely decorated. They are still trying out terrace curtain treatments so the place will look a lot better in a few months. There was also a bit of hammering and building noise but it really wasn't enough to disturb. The one thing the hotel is absolutely lacking is a nice evening beachside bar. There is nowhere to have a sundowner except one of the pool bars which is sunken into the ground and you have to kind of sit on the floor..no ideal. I think they're making a lounge bar / pizza place but they need to put something on the beach. The hotel bar was inside, freezing cold and played loud 80's music so wasn't really a popular choice. The diving was great - not stunning - but great, and I got my PADI which was fantastic. The watersports are at the Maroma Marina next to the hotel and are therefore ideally located but unfortunately they are all packaged up, so for example you can do jet skiing but have to go on an awful tourist boat for an hour of snorkeling with 50 other people.. They totally refused to do just one activity which was a bit frustrating. In the end we just did the diving for a few days. I did feed my comments into the hotel, as I know other guests did too. All in all a great time was had by all! Definitely on to recommend particularly as it was such good value. Thank you again. We'll definitely come back to you if we can squeeze in another holiday! thanks for checking! It has just been a long week after getting home.....Jeff had to have surgery on his arm yesterday for a torn bicep tendon. He was swinging on a rope at XelHa and tore the tendon! It didn't ruin our vacation, though. We appreciate all you did for us, as everything you planned went off without a hitch. You did your job perfectly!
We really did enjoy the area and our stay at the Grand Coco Bay was satisfactory. Our kids loved it there, as there was always something to do. It was a very convenient location to downtown and the beach there was fabulous.
So, overall, we did enjoy our vacation. Thank you for your help!

including simply relaxing. The trip from the airport was fast, unless of course you fell for the "time share" adventure which I must admit we did! Being in the building/development industry it was interesting for my husband however, not something we would do again! The funny thing was with all of the free give-aways promised, we took nothing as my husband and I did not feel comfortable. They do try to get you at the Grand Mayan as well but once you let them know you are not interested they do leave you alone. We did have to pay for the gym (no biggie)it was $10.00/day. I was glad we had plenty of time between flights as some people missed their connection and did not get back to IN until Friday afternoon. UGH! I must admit going that far from home not knowing what to expect except for what you see on the internet we could not have asked for anything else! I would visit PV again, and I think we had the best resort and the price was definitely not over the top! You did a wonderful job and put up with me for many months in doing so! Hi Leslie, We had a fantastic vacation. The Royal Hideaway is the finest resort we have ever stayed at. It is beautiful; from the property and rooms to the restaurants and pool/beach area. The staff at the hotel was superb. They went out of their way to make you comfortable and attend to every need. This made for an incredibly relaxing vacation. The restaurants were also amazing. From the tasting menu at Ventanas, Mexican at Spices to a beautiful breakfast buffet everything was delicious. It was nice having the town of Playa de Carmen a 5 min. cab ride away. The girls (both 18) had a good time with the night life. It is a pretty safe area down there and they met lots of other college kids. I'm terribly sorry it took me SOOOOOO long to get back to you, but I did want to share some of our experience. Life has been crazy as a married man and catching up from a 3 week vacation so its taken me a little longer than I would have liked to a point where I can breathe and catch up on old things.
Anyway, we had a lovely trip. Both plane rides were just fine and all of our transportation worked out as we had expected. Our room was great at the El Dorado Royal......ocean view, swim-up bar right outside, our own daybed on the beach, etc. We took 2 excursions to the dolphin experience and the Tulum ruins (which also included a snorkeling trip). Both were a lot of fun and made the trip more interesting. We also spent a night going out in Playa del Carmen - it worked out well that we shared a cab with another couple from Monterey, Mexico. They spoke Spanish on our behalf that night and got us in to places we probably wouldn't have found ourselves. Other than that, we slept and ate ourselves silly which was much needed. As a recommendation for future travelers to our resort, I highly recommend the fruit tempura dessert at Kampai restaurant....by far one of the best desserts I've ever had.
Things were great - people were really nice, weather was fantastic and I would do it again.

The trip was awsome! We had so much fun! The weather was really good. We want to go back, one week went so fast. We thought we would see if you could get us some info on renting a condo there and is it much cheaper? The hotel was awesome, no complaints, staff was friendly and we got our room upgraded to a suite! The hotel was clean and nicely renovated. Rick was really nice and down to earth! We bought the copyrights from the photographer and brought home the photos on a disc, because they were so nice and so many to choose from. We can't wait to go back. We have already started a vacation club for our next Hawaii trip. I will try to upload the video to the computer and send it to you. My brother, who isn't a good videographer, had control of the camera for some part of the ceremony. We were lucky enough to have a driver who brought us to Magic island take over. Some of it is lost in the transfer, but a lot of it is there. My brother made some audio comments, and I hope you will not be offended by one in particular. He did not know it had audio capabilities. It is more of a sitcom in the beginning, so you will get a little laugh out of it. The sound isn't that great because it was quite windy where we were. Thank you for all your help with our vacation. We will be using you again when we return. I think the only downside to it all was the long flight. Going out wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but coming home was a terrible flight. More turbulence then clear air, and no sleep at all for me. Beth managed to get a couple of hours. But that is the only complaint. "Hi Carson, We had a great time on the cruise to and from Mexico. With the weather, we had to completely skip Key West and headed straight for Calica. So while it was a long time at sea, we did have a great time. (Plus somehow until the Saturday before, I misunderstood thinking we'd return to MIA Thursday morning... instead of Friday morning.) Hi Jenni! Ugh - back to reality and work!! Vacation was fabulous! The Iberostar was gorgeous. We were on the Quetzal side - (we found no Tulum was beautiful and wonderful to see - but man was it hot! Xel Ha in 1/2 day was not quite enough time - I could see how a full day there would have been better, as there is a lot of exploring you could do. Its a very beautiful place and we sort of had to hurry through it. We did not go to Xcaret. Joel described Xel Ha as a natural site, where-as Xcaret is a man made (although wonderful) spot. I am glad we went with Xel Ha. And am also glad we did not book any other activities during our 8 days, because it is so wonderful just to hang out at the resort, either beach or pool side. The kids had loads of fun - but did not ever participate in Jenni - I appreciate your time and your services. I will absolutely be in touch with you when we go to book our next vacation.
