Archaeology Although it has indigenous roots, there are no nearby archaeological complexes.
Architecture One of the finest examples of architecture in this hot city in the state of Chiapas is the Cathedral of San Marcos, built in the mid-16th century. It has been remodeled several times, meaning that some of its original style has been lost. Its current facade is reminiscent of the local colonial churches. Just 15 km away, in Chiapa de Coroz, stands the Mudéjar fountain built in the mid-16h century by Fr. Rodrigo de León. Its characteristic features include its brick arches and a turret containing a spiral staircase.
