This in-depth tour takes adventurous travelers to the highlights of ancient Persia, as well as to traditional northern villages along the Caspian Sea coast. Travel northwest from Tehran, following the Caspian Sea coast to Gorgan. Travel through fragrant woodlands and remote villages near the Turkmenistan border - this region was once at the center of the caravan trail to Central Asia. Visit the famed "Gonbad-e-Qabus", a mausoleum tower constructed in 1006 AD, revered as an architectural marvel. Drive to the sacred city of Mashad, famed for the Shrine of Eman Reza, a superb example of Islamic architecture. Fly to Shiraz, for touring of the city and nearby Persepolis and Firouzabad. Spend an unforgettable week meandering back to Tehran, via the classic destinations of Kerman, Rayen, Yazd, Isfahan and Qum.
