10 Days Tailor Made Oman: Sands of Arabia Tour Package
Enjoy personally guided tours to the mosques and souks in Muscat. Then travel through this diverse country, from driving along its sandy shores where you might take a dip in the Arabian Sea, to enjoying stunning views from atop Jebel Sharms, Oman's highest point. After an off-road journey into the desert, meet Bedouins in their encampment. Enjoy a meal and spend the night in a traditional tented camp. Tour Itinerary Day 1 Arrive in Muscat and transfer to your hotel, situated on a sandy cove surrounded by the majestic Hajar Mountains. Day 2 Today, enjoy a morning sightseeing excursion to the enchanting port city of Muscat, beginning with the magnificent Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, a unique Islamic landmark. Next, visit Bait el-Zubair, once an old private home and now a unique museum showcasing an incredible display of Omani antiques. Also visit Bait Muzna, a gallery showcasing Omani artists. Day 3 Head into the interior where Nizwa, the former capital of Oman, serves as your base for the next two days. Visit the village of Bahla, renowned for its pottery and use of indigo dye. Today's highlights also include the Jabrin Castle, where you view its beautiful hand-painted ceilings and carved door frames. Day 4 Explore the spectacular Nizwa fort, constructed by Sultan bin Saif in 1660. The huge round tower, the largest in Oman, was built to provide protection for the nearby castle when Nizwa served as the capital. Visit the traditional souk, known for the fine craftsmanship of its silver, brass and copper. Enjoy some picturesque villages at the foothills of Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountains) and walk through the oasis and dense date plantations. Day 5 Travel to the Wahiba Sands, a pocket of red dunes nestled between the Gulf of Oman and the Jiddat el-Harassis, a protected wildlife area. Travel off-road deep inside the sands to your home for this evening, a Bedouin-style tented camp. Day 6 Visit a traditional Bedouin encampment to meet the locals and enjoy Arabic coffee, the welcome drink of the Middle East. Drive along the beautiful Omani coastline, where you may have an opportunity to swim in the Arabian Sea and observe ships under construction at the dhow yards of Sur. Day 7 Relax this morning before embarking on an afternoon walking tour of Muscat's old town. Stroll around el-Alam Palace, the residence of Oman's hereditary ruler, Sultan Qaboos. Continue to the Muttrah souk and the Omani antique stalls. Day 8 Visit Beit el-Falaj, the Sultan's Armed Forces Museum, a Bateel date store, and the Omani Heritage Shop.
