Tour Itinerary
Day 1
Freshen up and start your New Zealand adventure at the Herzog Wine Estate. Here, Chef Louis Schindler will unlock the secrets of gourmet cuisine. This hands-on workshop is a unique opportunity for “foodies” of all levels. You will learn how to prepare and present a fresh market, three course gourmet meal, which you will enjoy for lunch. The class is conducted in Herzog’s state-of-the-art European style kitchen. The afternoon includes breathtaking Pelorus Sound views with a stop to sample freshly steamed Green Lip mussels served with a crisp, chilled New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
Day 2
The magnificent Marlborough wine region is known to produce world-class Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and more. Vineyards for wine tasting today may include Foxes Island, Huia, Cloudy Bay, and Fromm. A gourmet winery lunch will be included. A delicious New Zealand Style BBQ dinner is scheduled for this evening.
Day 3
En route to Christchurch, experience the wine region of Waipara. Waipara soil is rich in chalk and enriched limestone, giving the wines rich, intense full-bodied flavors. Vineyards may include Daniel Schuster, Mount Cass and Pegasus Bay.
Day 4
Tour the English garden city of Christchurch with stops at Cathedral Square, Victoria Square, the Avon River, Town Hall, and Floral Clock. After lunch enjoy high tea at the Sign of the Takahe, a historic building that provides spectacular views that over-look the city, Canterbury Plains and the Southern Alps. Try the George Hotel for dinner at the world-renowned, “Pescatore Restaurant”. Bon Appetit!
Day 5
The vast Canterbury plains await you today. This is the largest area of flatland in all of New Zealand. You will stop at Geraldine, a country village decorated with pretty flower gardens and local craftsmen. Visit the local cheese maker, chocolatier or the internationally recognized Barkers fruit products. Stop for lunch along the way, before you continue crossing the Southern Alps including views of Burkes Pass, MacKenzie Basin, and the azure colored Lake Tekapo. Mount Cook National park is home to the world-renowned Hermitage Hotel where you will be staying.
Day 6
Experience a casual scenic drive as you take photos of breathtaking passes, lakes, cliffs and hillsides before entering the Mt. Aspiring National Park. Dinner at “The Bath House,” a delightful restaurant situated on the shores of Lake Wakatipu will conclude a perfect day.
Day 7
It is off to wine country today! Imagine grapevines planted among beautiful alpine mountains and gorges. Numerous choices today include Amisfield, Peregrine, Felton Road, Two Paddocks and Mount Difficulty for Pinot Noir with lunch. Consider dining at Saffron Restaurant located in nearby historic Arrowtown.
Day 8
Cruise through majestic Milford Sound fjords. The Maori legend believes that the god, Whanoa, created this amazing area by uttering incantations. Spend the remainder of the day in this ecological area before returning to Queenstown. Dinner is at your leisure this evening.
Day 9
After breakfast, you will have some free time before you are transferred to the Queenstown airport for your journey home.
