Day 2. At Rotorua. This morning, proceed on a half-day tour and see roaring geysers and boiling mud pools at the thermal area, tame trout at the springs, and see performing sheep and dogs at the Agrodome. Your afternoon is free- many activities are available for you to enjoy. Overnight in Rotorua. Day 3. Rotorua - Wellington. Drive south through exotic forests to Wairakei - wreathed by steam, then to Lake Taupo. The ominous peak of Tongariro, Ngaruahoe, and Ruapehu watch over the central plateau. Continue across the fertile plains of the Manawatu, coastal farms and rocky seascapes to Wellington. As you arrive in the late afternoon, consider adding an evening sightseeing tour or an additional night in Wellington to explore the city. Overnight in Wellington Day 4. Wellington - Picton - Christchurch. Cross Cook Strait by ferry, to the Malborough Sounds and Picton. The Tranz Coastal train skims the spectacular coastline between the Kaikoura Ranges and the Pacific. Continue through North Canterbury sheep country to Christchurch arriving approximately at 7:00 pm.
