Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Christchurch, New Zealand Christchurch, the garden city, welcomes you. Transfer to your hotel. Remainder of the day is at leisure to begin your discovery of Christchurch, known for festivals from arts to ballooning to flowers. The city has a number of gardens, both public and private, as well as shopping, art galleries and sidewalk bistros. At International Antarctic Centre, you can experience an Antarctic storm first hand. Choice of Hotels
Day 2: Christchurch / Mt. Cook / Dunedin Depart Christchurch and travel over the fertile Canterbury Plains to reach New Zealand’s highest mountain – Mt Cook. You have some free time for an optional sightseeing flight before traveling via scenic lakes to the east coast and the Scottish influenced city of Dunedin. Choice of Hotels (B)
Day 3: Dunedin / Queenstown This morning, enjoy a city tour of Dunedin, which has a reputation as one of the best preserved Victorian and Edwardian cities in the Southern Hemisphere. Architecturally outstanding is the massive stone Flemish Renaissance-style Dunedin Railway Station, built 1904 -1906. Board the Taieri Gorge Railway for an afternoon train journey to Queenstown. Travel through rugged and spectacular Taieri River Gorge, across wrought iron viaducts and through tunnels hand carved more than 100 years ago. Huge cliffs drop away to the river below. The train stops in Central Otago, where you continue by coach to Queenstown, arriving mid-evening. Choice of Hotels (B)
Day 4: Queenstown Today, you are free day to relax or explore the many facets of Queenstown. The region offers a wide range of activities and attractions, including wineries, art galleries, and challenging golf courses. Thrill seekers can jet boat up the Dart River or enjoy a scenic flight, sail, fish, cycle, walk, bungee jump, snowmobile, ski and more. Choice of Hotels (B)
Day 5: Queenstown / Milford Sound Today’s adventure takes you along the southern arm of Lake Wakatipu to Lumsden, then on to Lake Te Anau. Traveling through dramatic scenery, you come to Milford Sound, one of the island’s loveliest areas, with dramatic waterfalls, famous fiords and mighty mountains. Mitre Peak and cascading Bowen Falls are breathtaking. Choice of Hotels (B)
Day 6: Queenstown / Glacier Region Travel along the shores of Lakes Wanaka and Hawea to the Haast Pass. Continue up the west coast past spectacular mountain ranges, native forests and trout-filled lakes to Westland National Park and the glaciers of Franz Josef and Fox. Choice of Hotels (B)
Day 7: Glacier Region / Christchurch Travel north to Greymouth today and board the Tranz Alpine train for a spectacular ride over the highest pass through the Southern Alps. Ascend through lush beech forests past the alpine village of Arthur's Pass and wind through some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in New Zealand. Then, drive by the Waimakariri River to Christchurch. Choice of Hotels (B)
Day 8: Christchurch / Depart Today, board your international flight onward. (B)
