Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in the Amazon Today you arrive in Santarém, Brazil, where the Amazon and Tapajós rivers meet. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your home for the next four nights, the 60 ft yacht The Tupaiu. Cast off is at 3pm. Later this afternoon, take a sunset dip in the Amazon before continuing on to The Tapajos National Forest. The Tupaiu
Days 2-3 Communities of the Tapajós River After breakfast, visit the Jamaraquá village and trek into the jungle. Return to the ship, enjoy a relaxing swim, and then continue on your way to the village of Alter do Chão, where we will anchor for the night and have a beach picnic. The next morning, hike up the Serra da Piroca for a breathtaking 360° view of the forest, followed by the chance to explore the amazing blue lagoon facing the village. Before lunch, a visit to the local community projects will allow you to investigate various aspects of life in the Amazon. After lunch, sail to the black water Arapiuns River and stop at a beautiful Urucureá, a jungle village known for its handicrafts, before docking at the remotest point of your journey on an isolated river beach. Day 4 Communities of the Jari River Explore the Jari channel, with its abundant wildlife and farms. Visit the prosperous Arapixuna village, where you will have lunch in a traditional family house, before heading towards the beautiful bird sanctuary before sunset where thousands of birds fly to. Days 5-6 São Luis Fly to São Luis, the 16th largest city in Brazil, located on an island in São Marcos Bay. In addition to a tour of the beautiful historic center, which contains a large collection of secular Portuguese architecture, learn about local people, legends, and folklore. Cobblestone alleyways, colonial buildings, stairways of stone, and dozens of important historical monuments preserve the memory of a place that is called, "The City of Tiles and Mansions.” Pestana São Luís Hotel
Days 7-8 Barreirinhas & Lençóis Maranhenses Nat’l Park Early morning chartered flight to Barrerinhas. Transfer via 4x4 vehicles to the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park where you will explore the park, populated by large sand dunes and blue and green lagoons, created by the rains that fall on the region during the first half of the year. The next day, continue your exploration of the park. Start with a speedboat ride up to the Rio Preguiças until you reach Pequenos Lençóis. After lunch, you will explore this area on Land Rovers, passing through this beach region, until you arrive in Paulino Neves in the late afternoon. Day 9 Luis Correia Drive from Paulino Neves to the Tutóia region, were your boat will be waiting to guide you through the largest delta in the world, Delta do Parnaíba. The Delta forms an archipelago with more than 70 islands, sand dunes, and fresh water lakes. This afternoon you will reach the city of Luis Correia, where you spend the night. Pousada Islamar
Days 10-12 Jericoacoara This morning continue driving toward Jericoacoara, until 15 years ago a sleepy fishing village—no roads, no electricity, no phones, no TV’s, no newspapers. Although tourism has reached Jeri, it still keeps its unhurried and peaceful way of life, and has been protected from overdevelopment since 1984. In 1994, the Washington Post Magazine chose Jericoacoara as one of the 10 most beautiful beaches of the world. Your hotel is the most charming accommodation in Jericoacoara—Pousada Vila Kalango. The next two days are at your leisure to relax and enjoy your beautiful surroundings. There are many activities that can be arranged, such as horseback rides and leisurely hikes, to more extreme sports such as windsurfing or sandboarding.
