 Pairing a cultural exploration of Ecuador with time in the Galapagos Islands, a nature enthusiast's dream destination, makes for a truly remarkable journey. Start in Quito with a day of private touring that includes a ride on the teleferico as well as visits to St. Augustine Convent, the Presidential Palace, and other notable spots. The next day, take a day trip to Otavalo, a town north of Quito in the Sunrise Valley; Otavalo has a thriving open-air market that dates back to pre-Incan times. From Quito, fly to Cuenca, one of Ecuador's most charming cities, and spend an afternoon exploring the historic churches, squares, and cathedrals. Travel by road to Guayaquil, stopping along the way to explore the famous Incan ruins at Ingapirca. From Guayaquil, fly to Baltra to board the Galapagos Explorer, the ship that will be your home for four nights. Your time in the Galapagos will include the islands of Bartolome, Fernandina, Santa Cruz, and San Cristobal. Visitors are almost universally thrilled by the sheer diversity of the wildlife: expect to see sea lions, Galapagos penguins, marine iguanas, sea turtles, blue-footed boobies, and many other rare animals. Upon disembarkation, fly back to Guayaquil for two final nights in Ecuador.
