Jeri, as it is known endearingly, is an Ecological Reserve of moveable dunes, bays with clam waters and strong winds. Paradise for kite and wind surfers, it is a destination for intense contact with nature without having to forsake comfort. The sleepy fisherman village of 20 years ago is now popular with travelers from all over the globe, after The Washington Post named it one of the 10 most beautiful beaches of the world.
Unique location is what differentiates the experience of spending time here, with time on any other paradise-like beach in the country. Good infra-structure in the village with sandy roads adds to the appeal. Buggy rides across the dunes, swimming in fresh water lagoons, iconic sunsets and good night life summarizes Jeri reductively but correctly. You have to be there to understand.
The Jericoacoara Climate The northeast of Brazil sees little temperature and climate change year round, keeping thermometers on average between 29oC–35oC. Jericoacoara is one of the few beach places in Brazil that remains relatively dry in July, when places further south are rainy. Sun is pretty much a constant in jeri.
VILLAGE & LOCAL COMMUNITIES Jericoacoaras sandy roads all lead to the sea. Lined with restaurants and shops the village is charming and rustic. Igreja da Pedra, the church, offers great views of the vast extension of pristine sandy beaches that isolate it. Local communities in the region are mainly fishing villages but vary greatly in style and setting. Mangue Seco, by a Mangrove, Guriu and Tatajuba (25km away) by a sweet water lagoon, are the most popular.

Further from the sunset dune however, is Jeris iconic rocky arch in the sea - Pedra Furada - a 1hr walk along the beach west from the village A hill covered in vegetation stands solitary in amidst the bare dunes - Serra do Serrote – and a above it a Lighthouse that offers a 360 degree view. Horseback rides along the beach and up to the lighthouse is a popular activity, while Interspersed lagoons are a refreshing option when you want a change from time on the windy beaches, as does sand-boarding on the dunes.
WATER SPORTS The unique Jeri wind conditions, ideal for kite and wind surfing attract followers of the sports from around the globe.
