The district of Governador Celso Ramos is just 25 miles (40 km) from the state capital Florianópolis, and is a region immersed in history and tradition, with its small fishing villages whose inhabitants are descendents of the first immigrants from the Azores to settle along the Santa Catarina coast. It is a slice of the old-fashioned Brazil of colonial times, where the most important elements of life are traditional activities such as fishing, embroidery and oyster and mussel farming. We are unable to accept guests under the age of eighteen, both in order to maintain the peace and tranquillity our guests expect and also because of the nature of the local terrain.
Ponta dos Ganchos Resort, Ganchos  Colonization in Governador Celso Ramos dates back more than 200 years, to when Portuguese settlers began arriving to work in the whaling industry. Nowadays the region specializes in molluscs and is one of the largest producers of cultured mussels in Brazil and an important fishing area. The same Azorean settlers who founded the neighbouring settlement of São Miguel also began to people Governador Celso Ramos, which was part of the district of Biguaçu up until 1963. Churches were always used as the communities´ meeting places and, in addition to their religious uses, the settlers would hold meetings there to discuss subjects such as how best to defend themselves from the natives. Since the necessary conditions for development were not available at Armação da Piedade, the founders moved to Ganchos, which is where the municipal centre remains today. Pride of place is reserved for seafood dishes, in particular for Santa Catarina’s famous oysters, which many people consider the best in the world, such is their taste, texture and delicacy. Here in Governador Celso Ramos, it is the mussels that are famous for their flavour, colour and texture. This is one of the most important mussel-producing areas in Brazil.
