Mention Chile to the average American and they might claim familiarity with the poetry of Chilean author Pablo Neruda, the tasty Chilean wine that has become increasingly popular, or the legendary Easter Island - and you can boast first-hand knowledge of all three after taking this magical tour. Begin your trip in Santiago, where you will visit Neruda's house in Valparaiso as well as his house-turned-museum in Isla Negra, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Also visit the vineyards of the Maipo Valley near Santiago to sample their products and learn about the intricacies of wine production.

Next travel overland to Mendoza (in Argentina), passing through some of the most beautiful mountain scenery on the continent. Mendoza is a lovely, leafy town full of sidewalk cafes and large parks and, while here, you'll be able to compare Argentina's wine industry to Chile's when you spend the day in the vineyards. Fly back to Santiago for an overnight and then continue on to Easter Island for a three-night stay. Located in the middle of the vast Pacific Ocean, Easter Island is the most isolated inhabited island in the world. Spend your days touring the island and learning more about the famous "moai" sculptures and the people who created them - though much of the history of this island remains a mystery to all!
