Day 1: Arrive Campo Grande / The Pantanal
Arrive into Campo Grande and transfer to the wetlands of the Pantanal, a vast refuge for capybara, caiman, tapir, monkeys and some 600 species of birds including macaws, spoonbills, and jabirus. Arrival to your lodge within a private ecological reserve, part of a working cattle ranch where the cows live side by side with caimans and wolves, tapirs, deer, and jaguars. Days 2 - 4: The Pantanal
The next three days are spent exploring the diverse terrain of the Pantanal in different ways. Ride horseback through arboreal ranges and forests where wildlife abound. Or go out in open vehicles in search of mammals, amphibians, and exotic birds; or after dark to view nocturnal species. Boat trips explore the aquatic vegetation and beauty of the “carandazal” floating on transparent waters. Treks on interpretive trails delve into the heart of the forest. All outings are guided by bilingual researchers and focus mainly on mammal and bird observation during the dry season, May through November. The wet months, December through April, are best for bird and flora observation, when the rivers fan out into an ocean of green, and a breeding ground for water-loving flora. Day 5: The Pantanal / Campo Grande / Depart
Return to Campo Grande for your departing flight. (B)
