Itinerary

Day 1, Depart USA
Begin your holiday with an overnight flight to Bolivia.

Day 2, Arrive Santa Cruz
Arrive in tropical Santa Cruz, an industrial boomtown in the lush eastern lowlands.  You are transferred to your hotel for a rest, before touring the lively plazas, museums, and zoo.  Los Tajibos

Day 3, Santa Cruz - Samaipata
Travel on breathtaking mountain roads to the resort town of Samaipata.  Visit the mysterious Inca Fort, carved with fantastic designs and animal figures.  Return to town via the refreshing waterfalls of the Caves.  Los Tajibos (B,L)

Day 4, Santa Cruz / Sucre
Fly today to the national capital, Sucre, a pleasantly quiet and isolated city, with some of the oldest and finest colonial architecture in South America.  Just outside town, head to the Cal Orko Mountain to view the world’s largest collection of dinosaur footprints.  Hostal de Su Merced (B)

Day 5, Sucre
Continue exploring Sucre’s diverse attractions on a tour of the historic city center, a jewel of 18th century churches, mansions, and monasteries.  Hostal de Su Merced (B,L)

Day 6, Sucre / Potosi
Travel a dramatic route that ascends 5,000 feet from the valley to the highlands of Potosi, once the richest source of silver in the world.  Tour the magnificent Spanish colonial churches that are all that remain of the immense wealth that once flowed from its mines.  Cima Argentum (B,L)

Day 7,Potosi / Sucre
Tour the depths of the Cerro Rico silver mines, where you’ll don protective gear for an unforgettable trip thousands of feet into the earth.  After lunch, return to Sucre.  Hostal de Su Merced (B,L,)

Day 8,Sucre
Depart on an exciting mountain road to Tarabuco, and one of the most authentic and lively Indian markets in South America. Watch the strolling musicians and shop for weavings direct from the artisans, before continuing to Sucre.  Hostal de Su Merced (B,L)

Day 9,Sucre / La Paz
Fly to La Paz’s lofty airport, in the altiplano at 13,000 feet.  You are met and transferred to your hotel in magnificent view of Mt. Illimani, where the rest of the day is at leisure to acclimatize.  Europa (B)

Day 10,La Paz
Explore La Paz this morning, from the steep colonial streets to native markets rich in handicrafts, folk remedies and witchcraft curios.  Continue to the surreal landscapes of the Valley of the Moon, before an afternoon at leisure.  Europa (B)

Day 11,La Paz / Tiwanaku / Huatajata, Lake Titicaca
Depart through highlands where the Aymara still farm ancient terraced plots built by their ancestors.  Arrive at the famous pre-Inca ruins of Tiwanaku, a monumental temple complex with incredibly advanced constructions and an expressive wall of faces.  Tour the ruins of the two civilizations that flourished here, then continue to Huatajata on the shores of Lake Titicaca.  Visit the Andean Roots complex, innovative Altiplano Museum, and the mystic world of the Kallaways, then savor a candlelight dinner of local trout.  Inca Utama (B,D)

Day 12,Copacabana / Lake Titicaca – Island of the Sun
Hydrofoil over the world’s highest navigable lake, Titicaca,, the birthplace of Inca civilization.  At Copacabana, visit the famous cathedral and the “La Morena” Indian village. Continue to Sun Island.  Go ashore to explore the Pilkokaina Inca ruins, then sample an Andean aptapi lunch served in the local communal style.  Hike for about an hour to your estancia cabin, beautifully integrated with its environs.  Ecolodge La Estancia (B,L,D)

Day 13,Lake Titicaca / La Paz
Experience a typically brilliant sunrise on the lake, before hiking for about an hour to Uma Kollo for a visit to the Yumani Steps. Then proceed by hydrofoil to Moon Island to visit the Inak Uyu Sun Virgin Temple. Continue to Huatajata where you proceed by road to La Paz.   Europa (B,L)

Day 14,La Paz / Depart to USA
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the USA, arriving later today.  (B)
