This two-week program offers a perfect introduction to the more famous attractions of Brazil. Begin with three nights in lively Rio de Janeiro, where touring highlights include the Christ Statue at Corcovado Mountain and Sugar Loaf. From Rio, also take a jeep tour of the Tijuca Atlantic Forest -- the world's largest forest within an urban area -- and tour the city's historical district. Next fly to Iguassu Falls, where you'll spend two days in and around the powerful cascades. The falls are a magnificent sight, almost 3 kilometers long and made up of 275 different waterfalls. From Rio, fly to northeast Brazil, a beautiful tropical region where sugar plantations were once plentiful; today, Afro-Brazilian culture pulsates with an almost audible rhythm. Tour the colonial towns of Recife and Olinda, where the recently renovated downtown exhibits splendid examples of colonial churches and mansions. Travel overland to Porto de Galinhas beach, one of the prettiest in a region known for exquisite beaches, for a few days at leisure. Finally, fly to Salvador, arguably Brazil's most culturally rich city. Spend a couple of days touring this historic city and its surroundings, including a visit to the Pelourinho district, where you will see some of the best preserved examples of colonial architecture in all of the Americas. Your final day in Brazil features a day trip to Praia do Forte, a picturesque fishing village with some of the finest beaches in the country. |
