Duration: 9 Days / 8 Nights Priced From: $3195 pp Dbl. Occ. Dates: Jan - Dec

Brazil covers over half the area of South America and is home to some of its most spectacular geography. This journey begins in Rio de Janeiro, set on a natural bay surrounded by mountains, forests and golden beaches. From here you journey to Salvador, the first major port and the capital of colonial Brazil for almost two centuries. At Manaus, a stunning neoclassic city in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, you’ll embark on an unforgettable river experience.
Tour Itinerary
Days 1-3 Rio de Janeiro Begin your visit with a scenic drive along Rio’s famous beaches, Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and the Tijuca Forest. Ride gondolas up Corcovado Hill and Sugar Loaf Mountain for stunning views of the city, and Guanabara Bay below. Later, sample the best barbecue in Rio and take in a samba show capturing Brazil’s folklore and carnival rhythms. A full day tour to nearby Petropolis will include the 19th century imperial summer residence, now the Imperial Museum housing a fabulous collection of art objects and jewels and site of the enchanting Crystal Palace. Copacabana Palace
Days 4-5 Salvador Lying among green tropical hills and the broad beaches of Todos los Santos Bay, Salvador is a gem of history and culture. The city’s baroque churches, historic squares and private homes preserve Brazil’s European patrimony while evidence of African influence in Brazilian culture is everywhere. Spicy dishes are still called by their African names, and ceremonial dances honor both African deities and Catholic holidays. You’ll attend a performance by the Balé Folclórico da Bahia, one of the most respected folklore dance troupes in the world, and enjoy the best in Mediterranean cuisine with a distinctly Bahian touch. Convento do Carmo
Days 6-8 Manaus and the Amazon Fly to Manaus, in the heart of the Amazon, and board the Iberostar Grand Amazon ship, your floating home for the next three days. Enjoy sunrise breakfasts on the upper deck, or in the Kuarup restaurant, evenings of live music and a folkloric show, and days adventuring deep into the Amazonian jungle. Smaller boat excursions will explore seasonal tributaries and flooded woodlands off the main channel. You’ll have ample opportunities for bird-watching and alligator-spotting and even piranha fishing, as well as trekking and a photo safari in the Manacapuru region. Iberostar Grand Amazon
Day 9 Manaus to Sao Paulo This morning you can enjoy your breakfast at sunrise on the upper deck watching the “Encontro das Aguas,” or Meeting of the Waters. This is the spot where the dark-colored water of the Rio Negro joins the light brown muddy water of the Rio Solimões to form the Amazon. Shortly after your shipboard breakfast you will arrive and disembark at Manaus for your flight to Sao Paulo and departure.
