4 Days Salvador Brazil Tour Package
Duration: 4 Days / 3 Nights Priced From: $1235 pp Dbl. Occ. Dates: Jan - Dec

The capital of the State of Bahia, Salvador was also Brazil’s capital until 1763. The lower city at sea level contains the old port and the commercial area. This area is also the best place to see a demonstration of capoeira, a martial art developed by African slaves in Brazil, originally as a form of combat, and later, as a type of dance and folklore tradition. The upper city can be reached by stone steps, alleyways or the famous Lacerda Elevator. Immerse yourself in the city's history, then tour outlying areas to truly get a taste of a bygone era.

Day 2 Cachoeira: A Day in the Heartland After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll leave the city behind to explore the farming areas on the western side of the All Saints Bay. This is the land of sugar cane plantations, peaceful colonial towns and busy country markets, a day of insights into the life in rural Brazil. Head north out of the city and then head west, stopping at busy country market town of Santo Amaro. Continue the drive westwards through rolling hills to Cachoeira, the jewel of the Bahian hinterland. Cross to the western bank of the slow moving river and visit the Danemann Cultural Center where you can also see world-class cigars being expertly rolled. Pestana Convento do Carmo
Day 3 History, Art or Social Perspectives Today, you may chose between one of three options (A, B or C) on how you would like to spend your day: A. The Lower City: Another Perspective The Lower City tour offers another perspective of the sprawling city, taking you to the quiet waters of the Itapagipe Peninsula where life moves at a slower pace than the active upper city. Continue to the Monserrat district with its panoramic view of the city and on to the Mercado Modelo, a thriving market for local artifacts and souvenirs. B. Art in Public Places One of the great ports of the eastern seaboard of Latin America, Salvador has always been a great melting pot of artistic expression. The music and dance traditions in Bahia draw heavily from African sources. This is also true of the visual arts. Salvador is one of the main centers of artistic expression in Brazil. Most artists use African motifs in some aspect of their work. Includes a visit to a selected artist, as well as visiting some of Salvador's most important public works of art and finishes with a visit to Salvador's leading art gallery where we will an overview of the best in local contemporary art.
C. Candomblé: Religious and Social Focus Visit a traditional Candomblé house of worship established at the turn of the century. Our visit will focus on the religious and social traditions of the temple. We visit the primary school whose curriculum includes Yorubá language studies, the study of the spiritual and medicinal properties of sacred plants, as well as the normal academic studies. Note: There is an additional charge for the visit to Candomblé terreiro.
Bahia By Night: Balé Folclórico da Bahia After you return from your day trip, you will be able to take in a performance of The Bahia Folklore Company—one of the most respected folklore dance troupes in the world. The company performs in a seamless presentation of the multiple African traditions that underpin Bahian culture.
