Day 1, Depart USA
Begin your holiday with an overnight flight to Chile.
Day 2, Arrive Santiago
You are welcomed on arrival in Santiago and transferred to your hotel, a soothing respite in the city center. This afternoon take in the sights, from the elegant European architecture to the panoramic San Cristobal Hill. Plaza El Bosque Park & Suites
Day 3, Santiago – Vina del Mar, Valparaiso
Travel through vineyards and olive groves, gardens and seascapes of incomparable beauty on an excursion to the coast to visit Vina del Mar and historic Valparaiso. Plaza El Bosque Park & Suites (B,L)
Day 4 & 5, Winelands
A favorite excursion from Santiago is to some of the historic, family-run wineries to the south, the finest in Chile and an area of great natural beauty. Depart towards the Maipo Valley, seeing how Chile’s famous wines are produced and sampling fine vintages at the wineries of Aquitania, Concha y Toro and Santa Rita. Enjoy Casa Real, a renovated 19th century wine estate where you’ll stay in a superb small hotel converted from the owner’s private mansion. Day 6, Winelands / Santiago / Puerto Montt / Puerto Varas, Lake District
We return to Santiago and fly to Puerto Montt, a mosaic of charming shingled homes and little farms at the edge of the vast glacial archipelago of Chiloe. Tour the Bavarian-style avenues here and in the small resort town of Puerto Varas, where your hotel overlooks Lake Llanquihue and Osorno volcano. Cabanas del Lago (B)
Day 7, Puerto Varas – Osorno & Petrohue Falls
To some, only the Bavarian Alps can compare with the scenic grandeur of the fjordlike Todos los Santos, the green Petrohue Falls, and Osorno Volcano, showcased on today’s excursion. Cabanas del Lago (B,L)
Day 8, Puerto Varas – Chiloe Island
Depart for a day on Chiloe Island to explore its unique architecture, folklore, and handicrafts. Stop for a fresh seafood lunch and view the colorful churches and homes. Watch for dolphin and seabirds as you depart. Cabanas del Lago (B,L)
Day 9-12, Atacama Desert
Fly to Calama, where you are met and transferred to the Explora Hotel near San Pedro de Atacama.
