It may come as a surprise that travelers can visit South America in less than a week, but this concise introduction allows people with limited time the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of the history and culture of Peru in just six days. Spend the first night in Lima and take a half-day tour of the city, which will include the cathedral, the catacombs of San Francisco, and the Gold Museum. The next day, head to Cusco; this pleasant town is many visitors’ favorite in Peru. After Cusco, head to the Sacred Valley, visiting highlights including Awanacancha, the native market of Pisac, and Ollantaytambo Fortress. Return to Cusco and hop aboard the Hiram Bingham train, a very enjoyable way to reach Machu Picchu. Accommodation at Machu Picchu is the Sanctuary Lodge, a well located property that allows guests to access the ruins before other tourists get there. While at Sanctuary Lodge, wake early to see the “ Lost City” come into sharp focus as the misty clouds burn off with the rising sun. After two days spent exploring Machu Picchu, take the train back to Cusco for a final night before heading to Lima to catch your outbound departure flight. |
