Tour Itinerary
Days 1 & 2, Wednesday & Thursday - Lima, Peru
Arrive in Lima and awaken your sense of discovery. On your exploration of the heart of colonial Lima, visit Enrico Poli’s private collection of rare Peruvian and pre-Columbian art. Also enjoy a guided tour of the Larco-Herrera Museum, where you’ll view the world’s largest collection of Moche art.
Days 3 & 4, Friday & Saturday - Nazca & Lima
We travel to Nazca, site of the mysterious Nazca Lines. These geoglyphs are so large that some speculate they were of alien origin, although most agree they were built by the Nazca people between 200 B.C. and 600 A.D. En route, enjoy lunch at Haucachina, a desert oasis built in the 1920s as a French-style luxury resort. In Nazca, you’ll see extraordinary exhibits at the Antonini Museum. In the morning, get a full appreciation of the scale of the Lines during your helicopter flight before returning to Lima.
Days 5 & 6, Sunday & Monday - Cuzco
Perched more than 10,000 feet above sea level, Cuzco’s Incan ruins and Spanish colonial monuments are among the richest in the Andes. Visit the Awana Kancha Breeding Center to learn ancient weaving techniques used for alpaca, vicuña and llama textiles, and enjoy an excursion to the Urubamba Valley, the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Then visit Pisac, a small, sleepy town that comes alive on market day.
Days 7 & 8, Tuesday & Wednesday - Machu Picchu
This morning we take the Orient Express Vista Dome train to Machu Picchu, the “Lost City of Incas.” Experience this mysterious center of worship that was also an astronomical observatory and a citadel. Relax with afternoon English Tea at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. Continue your explorations through the ruins or hike to Huayna Picchu. From the only luxury lodge at Machu Picchu, enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime spiritual experience of sunrise over the ruined city. Return to Cuzco by train and visit the imposing Ollantaytambo Fortress.
Days 9 & 10, Thursday & Friday - Lima
You have another chance to explore Lima’s history or shop its boutiques and craft shops for jewelry, leather, pottery, weavings and soft alpaca wool knits. Then savor your private farewell lunch at South America’s best-preserved colonial mansion, Casa Aliaga, the oldest continually inhabited private residence in the Western Hemisphere.
