Day 1, USA / Lima Begin your holiday with a flight to Peru, where you are met and transferred to your hotel in fashionable San Isidro. Swissotel
Day 2, Lima Founded by Pizarro in the 16th century, Lima preserves a fascinating past that you’ll explore on an afternoon tour of the colonial district and the Larco Herrera Museum. Swissotel (B)
Day 3, Lima / Juliaca / Puno Fly to the high antiplano, where the world’s highest navigable body of water straddles the Peru-Bolvia border at 12,600 feet. On arrival in Juliaca, you are transferred to Puno and your hotel on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Libertador Estevez (B)
Day 4, Puno - Lake Titicaca A morning boat trip on Lake Titicaca takes you to the Uros floating reed islands and the remote weavers’ island of Taquile, where lunch is served at the local restaurant. Libertador Estevez (B,L)
Day 5, Lake Titicaca Crossing to Huatajata, Bolivia Depart from Puno to Copacabana. Visit the famous cathedral and the “La Morena” Indian village. Commence a hydrofoil crossing of Lake Titicaca, a virtual inland sea of 3,000 square miles. Explore Inca spiritual sights such as Sun Island, believed the birthplace of their culture, and the Moon Island temple complex. Day 6, Huatajata / Tiwanaku Ruins / La Paz Begin your sightseeing today at the monumental temple ruins of Tiwanaku, with their incredibly advanced constructions and expressive wall of faces. Continue to La Paz. Europa (B)
Day 7, La Paz Explore La Paz this morning, from the steep colonial streets to native markets rich in handicrafts, folk remedies and witchcraft curios. Continue to the surreal landscapes of the Valley of the Moon, before an afternoon at leisure. Europa (B)
Day 8, La Paz / Cusco, Peru / Urubamba Valley Transfer to the airport for a short flight to Cusco, the ancient Inca capital. You are met and driven to the sacred Urubamba valley, to explore the “living museum” town of Ollantaytambo, with its extensive ruins and unfinished temple with some of the largest stones ever used by Inca builders. Day 9. Urubamba Cultural Immersion – Pisaq & Wiloq A day of cultural immersion takes you to Pisaq Market and Wiloq, where the village social structure, customs and dress have remained virtually unchanged for centuries. Posada del Inca or similar (B,L,D)
Day 10, Urubamba Valley / Machu Picchu A thrilling train ride aboard the Vistadome carries you through breathtaking vistas to Machu Picchu. Walk with your guide through this remarkable “lost city” of stone. Compare the simplicity of its civil dwellings with the high degree of perfection found in its religious temples and royal houses. Day 11, Machu Picchu / Cusco A free morning allows time for you to return to Machu Picchu on your own. A hike up Huayna Picchu for grand panoramas of the valley and ruins is also recommended, if the weather is clear. Return to Cusco by train this afternoon. Libertador (B,L)
Day 12, Cusco Spend the morning touring Cusco and the outlying Inca ruins of Qenqo and Tambomachay, the watchtowers of Puca Pucara, and the wondrous Sacsayhuaman, built of huge geometric blocks fit together with amazing precision. Libertador (B)
