Itinerary

Day 1, USA / Lima
Begin your holiday with a flight to Peru, where you are met and transferred to your hotel in fashionable San Isidro.  Swissotel

Day 2, Lima
Founded by Pizarro in the 16th century, Lima preserves a fascinating past that you’ll explore on an afternoon tour of the colonial district and the Larco Herrera Museum.  Swissotel (B)

Day 3, Lima / Juliaca / Puno
Fly to the high antiplano, where the world’s highest navigable body of water straddles the Peru-Bolvia border at 12,600 feet.  On arrival in Juliaca, you are transferred to Puno and your hotel on the shores of Lake Titicaca.  Libertador Estevez (B)

Day 4, Puno - Lake Titicaca
A morning boat trip on Lake Titicaca takes you to the Uros floating reed islands and the remote weavers’ island of Taquile, where lunch is served at the local restaurant. Libertador Estevez (B,L)

Day 5, Lake Titicaca Crossing to Huatajata, Bolivia
Depart from Puno to Copacabana. Visit the famous cathedral and the “La Morena” Indian village. Commence a hydrofoil crossing of Lake Titicaca, a virtual inland sea of 3,000 square miles.  Explore Inca spiritual sights such as Sun Island, believed the birthplace of their culture, and the Moon Island temple complex.  Go ashore in Huatajata and visit the Andean Roots complex and innovative Antiplano Museum.  Inca Utama (B,L,D)

Day 6, Huatajata / Tiwanaku Ruins / La Paz
Begin your sightseeing today at the monumental temple ruins of Tiwanaku, with their incredibly advanced constructions and expressive wall of faces.  Continue to La Paz.  Europa (B)

Day 7, La Paz
Explore La Paz this morning, from the steep colonial streets to native markets rich in handicrafts, folk remedies and witchcraft curios.  Continue to the surreal landscapes of the Valley of the Moon, before an afternoon at leisure.  Europa (B)

Day 8, La Paz / Cusco, Peru / Urubamba Valley
Transfer to the airport for a short flight to Cusco, the ancient Inca capital.  You are met and driven to the sacred Urubamba valley, to explore the “living museum” town of Ollantaytambo, with its extensive ruins and unfinished temple with some of the largest stones ever used by Inca builders.  Posada del Inca or similar (B,L,D)

Day 9. Urubamba Cultural Immersion – Pisaq & Wiloq
A day of cultural immersion takes you to Pisaq Market and Wiloq, where the village social structure, customs and dress have remained virtually unchanged for centuries.  Posada del Inca or similar  (B,L,D)

Day 10, Urubamba Valley / Machu Picchu
A thrilling train ride aboard the Vistadome carries you through breathtaking vistas to Machu Picchu.  Walk with your guide through this remarkable “lost city” of stone.  Compare the simplicity of its civil dwellings with the high degree of perfection found in its religious temples and royal houses.  Stop frequently to simply absorb the mountaintop setting.   Machu Picchu Pueblo (B,L,D)

Day 11, Machu Picchu / Cusco
A free morning allows time for you to return to Machu Picchu on your own. A hike up Huayna Picchu for grand panoramas of the valley and ruins is also recommended, if the weather is clear.  Return to Cusco by train this afternoon.  Libertador (B,L)

Day 12, Cusco
Spend the morning touring Cusco and the outlying Inca ruins of Qenqo and Tambomachay, the watchtowers of Puca Pucara, and the wondrous Sacsayhuaman, built of huge geometric blocks fit together with amazing precision.  Libertador (B)

Day 13, Cusco / Lima
Depart by air back to Lima, where you are met and transferred to your hotel.  The balance of the day is at leisure.  Swissotel (B)

Day 14, Lima / Depart to USA
After breakfast, you are transferred to the airport for your homebound flight.  (B)
