Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Early morning arrivals into Lima. Transfer to your hotel, the Marriot overlooking the Pacific. In the afternoon those of you who require wet suits and boards will go pick them up. Optional surf session this afternoon. Welcome private dinner at Kapallaq restaurant. Owner and Chef and legendary Peruvian surfer Luis ‘Negro’ Cordero will open his restaurant set in a 1920’s Mansion just for us. His kitchen is visible from the dining room and he will create his magic with the freshest seafood imaginable while we sit and drink pisco sours and sip local red and white wines. His menu will feature ceviche, many fish and shellfish clay pot stews, seasoned with native Peruvian herbs and flavors, as well as dishes that reveal a Spanish influence in the generous use of wine, olive oil, saffron, and garlic.
Day 2 Early this morning at 4:30 am we transfer from our hotel to the airport and fly to Piura in the North of coastal Peru. From here, our local staff meets us and we drive some 3 hours to Mancora. On the way to Mancora we will stop in Talara, check the surf, and most likely have our first session. We will have a picnic lunch. We will have afternoon surfing session depending on our arrival time in Mancora.
Del Wawa hotel is located directly on Mancora’s beach, right in front the point, and a five minute walk from downtown. The rooms are just a few yards away off the sea, and decorated in a rustic style with materials of the area, so you can’t avoid feeling a part of the nature that surrounds you. Rooms all have with private facilities and hot and cold water. There is an on site restaurant, which serves a large variety of fresh seafood, and because its all caught daily by local fisherman, freshness and quality is guaranteed.
Day 3 We will wake up at dawn and decide were to go surfing. There are approximately 15 different surf spots, most of them are only few kms. from Mancora. Our lunch venues will depend on the surf spots we choose. On most or all of the days there will be a full day of surfing. In the evening we can go to the local mud baths to relax with a bottle of wine or some beer. There are local bars and dance clubs to learn/practice our salsa. Mancora is a small but lively town. The people and local surfers are very friendly. Dinners and lunches will be at the hotel or in nearby restaurants. Sometimes we will have picnic lunches when surfing more distant breaks.
Day 4 This morning we leave our hotel early to drive back to Piura for our flight back to Lima. We will have day rooms available at the Marriot Hotel for changing and re-packing for those of us returning home tonight. Lunch at a nearby restaurant followed by shopping or sightseeing in Lima. Farewell dinner at Raphael Restaurant. Depart on your flight home (optional room at a Lima hotel can be arranged depending on your flight time). For those of you who want to do more surfing we suggest three days at Chicama in central Peru, home to the longest left break on earth. You may want to extend your stay in Peru and visit the Inca Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. Typically a trip to Cusco and Machu Picchu will add 4-5 nights to your trip.
Day 5 Lima boasts at least 30 surf spots within 10 to 30 minutes from its residential areas. Waves can be found every day, and range from 5’ to 15´ depending on the swell, occasionally getting up to 25’ at Pico Alto. September to May is warm and sunny; the rest of the year is cooler, with occasionally sunny days, but never too cold for surfing. In this desert region rainy or "flat" days are almost unheard of.
Day 6 This area, where the cold Humboldt current meets the warm Niño current, is loaded with tropical beaches and has year round sunny weather that make the perfect setting for excellent surfing. Many point breaks offer fast, hollow tubes, namely: El Hueco, Cabo Blanco, Organos, Mancora and Bayovar. The Surf is good all year. A shorty or just a Lycra shirt is recommended as the water is generally warm. Note: If you are a beginning surfer and want to go on the trip please discuss your surfing experience with us and we can help you decide if the trip would be fun for you. We can hire a private surf coach for one or more days of one-on-one sessions. We can organize boards and wetsuits locally in Lima.
