Tour Itinerary
Days 1-2: Port Moresby/Madang Arrive in colorful Madang, a valley fringed with reefs and backdropped by rugged mountains. Enjoy a guided nature walk to discover the marvelous local plant life. Snorkel in the protected waters of a lagoon abounding in tropical reef fish and undulating soft corals.
Days 3-4: Madang/Port Moresby Explore the unique traditions and culture of Madang and the surrounding area. Witness a Madang welcome sing-sing, a display of ceremonial singing and dancing in traditional dress. Board your flight to the country's capital, Port Moresby.
Day 5: Port Moresby/Tari/Ambua This morning, fly over rugged mountain ranges covered in dense rainforests to the Highlands area. Spend this afternoon exploring the mountain forests and roaring waterfalls surrounding your lodge.
Day 6: Ambua/Tari Valley/Ambua Visit the villages of the Southern Highlands, where their intricate social system has changed little over the centuries. Spend time with the Huli Wigmen, known for their elaborate, colorful dress and their ceremonial reverence for birds.
Days 7-8: Ambua/Sepik River Explore the Tari Gap, home to prolific plant and bird life including an incredible thirteen species of birds of paradise. Begin your river cruise aboard 'Sepik Spirit,' an air-conditioned floating lodge named for this mighty river lined with traditional villages.
Days 9-10: Cruising the Middle Sepik River You join a select few who have travelled the Middle Sepik. Visit its bordering villages and meet the people who live here.
Day 11: Sepik River/Karawari From the mysterious middle river, you travel south by jet boat along the Karawari River to your lodge. This evening, watch the sunset over the Karawari Valley before dinner.
Day 12: Karawari/Mount Hagen Fly to the capital of the Highlands area. After lunch, embark on a guided nature walk featuring the birds and flora of the area.
Day 13: Mount Hagen/Port Moresby Visit Mount Hagen, home to the Melpa people, and learn about the culture and customs that define their way of life. This afternoon, fly to Port Moresby.
Day 14: Port Moresby/Depart Transfer to the airport for your departing flight.
