Day 2 You Cross the International Date Line
The International Date Line is an imaginary line on the earth's surface that approximately coincides with the 180th meridian (LONGITUDE), and separates the calendar date. Traveling east across the line, takes the traveler back one day; traveling west, takes the traveler forward one day.
Day 3 Arrive Port Vila, Vanuatu
Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your accommodation.
Vanuatu offers a number of extraordinary natural sites, including active volcanoes, secluded islands, turquoise lagoons, stunning bays, coral reefs, beautiful flora and fauna, lush tropical forests, and a unique traditional culture, to which Island Safaris give you access.
Efate is the main island of Vanuatu, where the capital Port Vila is situated and also where the majority of commerce and tourism takes place. Archeological evidence in the form of distinctive pottery, indicates the first humans to settle in Efate were the Lapita people, probably from Papua New-Guinea via the Solomon islands. Oral history from Tongoa Island recalls the first arrival from the name Efate was effectively a comment on the island being a place where they would settle.
Port Vila is located around a magnificent natural harbor offering stunning views of Iririki and Ifira islands. It is Vanuatu's international gateway and remains the only town on the island. The airport is but a few miles from town and all major resorts and hotels. Vila is a pretty town. Clean and uncluttered, the waterfront area is so unpolluted, visitors are stunned to look down from the seawall and see live corals and tropical fish.
Day 4 Port Vila Cultural Tour
Travel to the Iarofa Cultural Village for a guided village tour. Here guests experience the way of life from centuries ago, and an informative guide will describe the food customs of the village, explain the array of local weapons, describe fishing and hunting techniques and teach practices for local herbs and medicines. Chief Johnson Sausiara, describes the history of cannibalism among the islands and will show the remains of these days long past. Traditional bands and dancers in costumes will entertain, while guests have the opportunity to sample some of the fine local fruits.
Day 5 At leisure, Port Vila
Port Vila is fast becoming known as the gourmet capital of the South Pacific. The potpourri of expatriate cultures is reflected in food styles served in over forty restaurants and cafes - French, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Mexican, Thai, Melanesian and Mediterranean. You can buy an ‘Aussie’ meat pie or American chili dog, sip cappuccino in one of the many outdoor cafes or purchase pates and salads from a patisserie in a supermarket to fill your picnic hamper.
Though there is little night life in Vila except that offered by the Resort Hotels, there is a nightclub (Flamingo), a friendly casino (at Le Meridien Resort), a movie theater (French only) and some restaurants often feature local or imported musicians. Best of all, Vila is a safe and hassle free environment. The shopping is fun and easy going. There's no such thing as a hard sell or pushy salesman. Prices are fixed and bargaining is not a part of the friendly lifestyle.
Day 6 Fly Port Vila to Tanna
Transfer to the airport for your brief flight to Tanna. On arrival you will be transferred to your accommodation.
Discovered in 1774 by Captain Cook, anchoring his ship HM Resolution, Tanna Island is one of the most fascinating islands in The archipelago. There are some amazing contrast’s, from the coral reefs and white grass plains to the local custom and awe inspiring Mount Yasur volcano. Wild horses roam the white grass plains, dashing through the famed Tanna coffee plantations, locals perform their traditional dances, that are reputed to have been handed down for thousands of generations, the colorful face painting and elaborate dress are some of the best that the Ni Vans practice
Day 7 Tanna Volcano Tour
This safari will take you through the Middle Bush area, past the wild horses on the White Grass plains, coffee plantations, many highland villages reaching Mt. Loanialu at 552 metres. Across the ash plain moonscape Isiwi area, terminating at the peak of Mt. Yasur. A further 15-minute walk will place you at the crater’s edge (dependant on volcano activity at the time) where one can ponder over the awesome power of nature.
Day 8 Fly Tanna to Espiritu Santo
Transfer to the airport for your brief flight to Santo. On arrival you will be transferred to your accommodation.
Espiritu Santo, or Santo to the locals, is the largest island in the chain, and owes its name to Quiros, who thought he had discovered the Australian continent and named the island Terra Australia del Espirito Santo in 1606. Santo is famed as the place where James A Michener was stationed during the 2nd world war, the fictional Bali Hi was a small island of the coast of Santo, and the legendary Tales of the South Pacific was born. Santo also boasts great bush walking tracks, coral reefs teaming with tropical fish and amazing blue waterholes. The island is the economical capital of Vanuatu, with its famed Santo beef, Copra, Coffee and fish industry.
Day 9 Santo Malo River Tour
A must do activity while staying on Santo, is to kayak along the nearby Malo River. This shallow freshwater river is home to many fish and an amazing freshwater lake at the end –don’t forget to take your camera here-simply stunning!
