1. What is the Sports Legends Challenge?
The Sports Legends Challenge is one of the most exclusive and elite sporting events ever held – the ultimate sports and casino fantasy come true. It is every fan’s chance to compete with and against 25 of the greatest Sports Legends of our time from the worlds of professional football, baseball, basketball, golf, auto racing, hockey, boxing and more. Plus, the Sports Legends Challenge will feature 25 of the world’s top Poker Pros.
Activities will include a wide range of freeroll casino gaming tournaments featuring No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em, Blackjack, Craps, Slots, Baccarat and more – with up to $5,000,000 in cash prizes. Additionally, the Sports Legends Golf Challenge tournament will be held at Atlantis’s world renowned Ocean Club Golf Course. 2. What are the dates for the Sports Legends Challenge?
The Sports Legends Challenge will take place September 14-17, 2009 at Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas. Event check-in will begin on Sunday, September 13th at 10 a.m. Sports Legends Challenge activities will begin officially on Monday morning, September 14th. The event will conclude Thursday evening, September 17th.
3. Where is the Sports Legends Challenge being held?
The inaugural Sports Legends Challenge is being held at Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas, one of the premier luxury resorts in the world.
4. Who are the Sports Legends that will be participating in the event?
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Troy Aikman, Sugar Ray Leonard, Richard Petty, Mike Ditka, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Emmitt Smith, Reggie Jackson, Joe Namath, Fuzzy Zoeller, Bobby Hull, Gale Sayers, Brooks Robinson, Jim Brown, Jerry West, Herschel Walker, Michael Strahan, and Kyle Petty make up the current Sports Legends Challenge roster. 5. Who are the Poker Pros that will be participating in the event?
A total of 25 world famous Poker Pros will be participating in the event. The current list of participating pros includes Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke, Jamie Gold, Johnny Chan, T.J. Cloutier, Men Nguyen, Kenna James, Tom McEvoy, Amir Vahedi, Barbara Enright, Phil Laak, Kathy Liebert, Gavin Smith, Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiri, Chip and Karina Jett, Marsha Waggoner with additional pros to be named. 6. What is the competitive format for the event?
The Sports Legend Challenge is a team format event. 21 teams will be established. Each team will consist of no more than 100 players with one Sports Legend serving as captain for each team. One of the Poker Pros will also be assigned to each team to serve as the team’s coach for the No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em competition. On the first day of the event, all participants will attend an exciting “Draft Party” where, in the atmosphere of a professional sports draft, participants will be randomly assigned to the Sports Legends’ teams.
Participants will have the opportunity to compete in a wide range of daily tournaments, including No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em poker, Blackjack, Craps, Slots, Baccarat, Golf and more, over the four days of the Sports Legends Challenge. There will be championship events for each Tournament competition. The grand finale of the competition will be the nationally televised Sports Legends All-Star Poker Challenge, featuring a No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em competition.
7. How will participants interact with the Legends?
A number of activities will be held throughout the event specifically designed to provide participant interaction with the Sports Legends. For example, the Sports Legends will serve as team captains for each of the 100 player teams, will participate in a “Meet the Legends” event, will participate in various photo and autograph opportunities, will participate in Q&A sessions and will join participants in a variety of other special events.
8. What is the Sports Legends All-Star Poker Challenge?
At the conclusion of the main poker event, the Sports Legends All-Star Poker Challenge will take place. The competition (composed of 21 two-person teams) will feature each Sports Legend along with the top 21 No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em finishers. In addition, each of the two-person teams will be assigned a professional poker player as a coach. This will be a winner-take-all event.
9. What is the Sports Legends Golf Challenge?
The Sports Legends Golf Challenge is a series of one-day golf tournaments that will be held at Atlantis’s world-renowned Ocean Club Golf Course. Play and awarding of prizes will be based on USGA handicaps. Up to $100,000 in cash prizes will be awarded.
10. Can entries to the Sports Legends Challenge be transferred or resold?
Entries to the Sports Legends Challenge are transferrable up to 30 days prior to the start of the event. All entry transfers must be approved by Sports Legends Challenge and communicated by the original registered entry owner via a notarized written document sent to Sports Legends Challenge. Entries may not be resold. The SLC reserves the right to void, without refund, any entries posted for resale.
11. Are entry fees refundable?
No, all sales are final. However, if the event is cancelled by SLC, a full refund for the purchase price of the entry will be provided.
12. Will the Sports Legends Challenge be televised?
Yes, the Sports Legends Challenge will be nationally televised on Fox Sports.
13. How much does it cost to enter the Sports Legends Challenge?
The direct purchase price for an entry into the Sports Legends Challenge is $8,500US. Additionally, there are a number of additional ways to enter or win an entry.
14. What is the SLC event cancellation policy?
If the event is cancelled by SLC, a full refund for the purchase price of the entry will be provided.
15. What types of payment will be accepted?
Sports Legends Challenge will accept cashier’s checks or wire transfers. These are standard payment options for events that involve casino gaming. 16. Can I pay by credit card?
Sports Legends Challenge cannot accept credit card payment. Accepted forms of payment are by cashier’s checks or wire transfers. 17. Can family and friends accompany a participant to the event?
Yes. The Atlantis offers a wide variety of activities for family and friends to enjoy while participants are engaged in the Sports Legends Challenge. However, only registered SLC participants will be provided access to participate in the actual activities that are part of the Sports Legends Challenge.
18. What does an SLC entry include?
An SLC entry includes the full range of activities included in Sports Legends Challenge, most of which will include interaction with the Sports Legends:
- The opportunity to participate in a wide range of freeroll casino gaming tournaments featuring No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em, Blackjack, Craps, Slots, Baccarat and Sports Legends Golf Challenge tournaments at the Atlantis’s world renowned Ocean Club Golf Course and trivia competitions. Participants will compete for up to $5,000,000US in cash prizes.
- Participation in a variety of activities, with up to $5,000,000US in additional prize money
- Exclusive special events – Draft Party, reception, awards event, Poker Academy, sports trivia contests, vintage sports memorabilia auctions and much more.
- The chance to win entry into the Sports Legends All-Star Poker Challenge with a winner-take-all cash purse of up to $1,000,000US. This event will be nationally televised on Fox Sports.
19. Do I need a passport to travel to the Bahamas?
For U.S. citizens, effective January 1, 2007, the U.S. Government requires passports for all air and sea travel to or from the Bahamas. Non-U.S. nationals should consult their own government regulations.
20. What is the potential prize pool for the Sports Legends Challenge?
Up to $10,000,000US in cash prizes may be awarded.
21. What are the “official rules” for the tournaments?

22. Are there age restrictions for entry into the SLC?
Participants must be 18 years of age as of September 13, 2009 to enter.
23. Can I select the SLC activities in which I will participate?
Yes. Participants may select as many activities as their interests, availability and time allow.
24. Are there plans for future Sports Legends Challenge events?
Yes. Each SLC event will be unique, featuring different Sports Legends and exciting activities.
25. Can participants trade team assignments?
Once team assignments are made at the Draft Party, participants will not be permitted to switch teams.
26. What level of experience do I need to participate in the various the Sports Legends Challenge tournaments?
This event is primarily geared toward those who consider themselves to be avid sports fans and competent in the various tournaments in which they decide to compete. Players of all skill levels are welcome.
