Diving & Snorkelling
Giant wings of a manta flutter gracefully through the water of the lagoon. Corals burst with colour. Schools of fish dance in unison – black and white stripes rising, falling, swerving, dipping. Your first foray into the waters of Bora Bora.
Three types of dives form the mainstay of Bora Bora – lagoon, ocean wall, pass.
The expansive lagoon of Bora Bora is alive with brightest colours of the ocean. World-famous for its rays, the lagoon is home not only to manta rays – the elegant giants who ply the waters here year-round – but also bat, eagle and leopard rays, among other species. Unlike many reefs, the lagoon here is also home to deep canyons. Within the canyons, you find a wide variety of sea life from mantas to morays.
Just beyond the reef, divers can explore ocean walls plied by the stars of the ocean – giant Napoleons, dolphins, sharks, jackfish, barracuda, turtles. Shark life includes black and whites, greys and lemons. From August to October, you may also have the chance to encounter humpback whales as they pass by on their annual migration route.
The Teavanui Pass is the superhighway of Bora Bora. The only channel between the lagoon and the open ocean, it hosts a continuous flow of immense splendour. The flow of water brings a constant supply of nutrients – and with it, vast schools of fish.
Nemo’s World, the PADI dive centre at Sofitel Bora Bora Beach Resort, allows you to explore the ocean riches. Expert dive masters guide you in discovering the must-see spectacles of Bora Bora’s lagoon, ocean and pass.
Tahitian Weddings
The island amidst a crystal clear lagoon is more than just a relaxing getaway. Through a traditional Polynesian wedding ceremony, allow your romance to continue to blossom, or relive the first moment when you said “I do.”
On the hill of a “moto” (islet) opposite the main island, the bride and groom arrive on the beach in a traditional Polynesian canoe. Draped in white pareo, the couple ascends to the top of the hill, hand-in-hand, amidst chanting and dancing of local musicians.
Before sunset, the wedding ceremony is performed, providing a colourful backdrop as the ceremony progresses. Incantations recited. Vows exchanged. Upon its completion, the newlyweds celebrate their given Tahitian names and are presented with a marriage certificate as a proof of their eternal vows to each other.
To rejoice the reignited romance, the couple is served a Polynesian fruit cocktail as they overlook the romantic sunset. For the ceremonial finale, our chef prepares a savory “à la carte” dinner menu featuring in-season flavours. This dinner accompanied by musicians who perform traditional Tahitian songs to finish off this unforgettable night – that will surely last forever.
