Sofitel Moorea Beach Resort

Located on a spectacular white sandy beach, with uninterrupted views across the lagoon to the island of Tahiti the Sofitel Moorea features 114 uniquely designed over-water, beachfront or garden bungalows, all superbly appointed with a full complement of five-star amenities to guarantee absolute comfort. Intense tropical oranges, cool blues and earthy browns characterise the resort’s design concept, drawing inspiration from two Gauguin masterpieces - Fatata te Miti (By the Sea) and Parahi te Marae (There Lies the Temple), as well as the vibrant hues of the island. Beautiful artefacts, sculptures and intricately designed furniture can be found in the interior of Sofitel Moorea reflecting its “home of art” philosophy, while its external structures are inspired by the island’s ancient mythology. The pyramid-like central buildings are said to represent the “male” energy of the island, while the brilliant fringed hutu blosssoms and verdant plant life represent the “female” energy of Moorea – an island traditionally associated with fertility.

Sofitel Moorea Beach Resort Activities & Services
With all year round sunshine Moorea is the perfect place to relax and soak up the sun, whether it’s by the horizon pool sipping a cool drink, or from the vantage point of the decking overlooking the lagoon. Beneath its surface the colourful coral gardens come to life as you snorkel through them. If you’re feeling more energetic a range of activities are on offer, including quad biking, kayaking, canoeing and diving. A cruise around the island is a further “must do” activity, including a stop to feed the silky rays, as well as the wild dolphins and sharks. Many cruises make a stop at Cook’s Bay with its aquamarine lagoon surrounded by rugged peaks and waterfalls, and the equally enchanting Opunohu Bay. Land tours to Moorea’s ancient maraes can also be arranged. These giant stones are symbols of Polynesian history and are of great archeological importance. Another popular option is a 4WD or motorbike ride around the island with stops at secluded picnic spots and pretty bays.

Tahitian Weddings
Magic. Romance. Dreams. Experience an ancient Polynesian style wedding ceremony that will imprint a lasting memory. Whether it is for renewing your lifelong vows to each other or uttering them for the first time. The setting is in an authentic Tahitian village of Tiki, overlooking a crystal clear lagoon. Imagine yourself and your special someone cruising by canoe to the village, where a festive band of local musicians and Polynesian dancers awaits to greet you. The bride then retreats to a ceremonial hut for a massage with Monoi and drapes herself into a Tahitian princess. Her groom, meanwhile, is escorted by canoe to a small beach, where he transforms himself into a Tahitian chief. The lovers reunite at the village ceremonial ground (Marae), where a Tahitian priest performs the ancient ceremony and recites the incantations. Village women rejoice this special moment with religious songs. A parchment of Tapa leaf is inscribed with the proof of your eternal vows to each other – the traditional village marriage certificate, a lasting symbol of your island wedding. Upon completion of the ceremony, the newlyweds perch atop the Royal chair, carried by four Polynesian warriors in a procession around the village. This memorable moment ends at the Royal Tahitian Floating House, where the evening bids farewell, with sunset over the blue lagoon. A perfect beginning for the honeymoon night.
