8 Days Marquesas Exploration Tour Package
The rugged coastline, volcanic mountain peaks and lush valleys await your exploration. There are no barrier reefs, so the coastlines are either indented with bays or end in abrupt cliffs, creating dramatic natural scenery. Herds of goats and packs of wild horses roam the islands. According to legend, the islands were formed when the gods Oatea and Atanua made the six main islands in the shape of the "Great Horse" and divided them into two distinct groups: the northern group with Nuku Hiva, the big island, Ua Pou and its sugarloaf mountains, and Ua Huka, the island of horses; and the southern group with Hiva Oa, the island of the tiki statues, and Tahuata and Fatu Hiva, the islands discovered by the Spaniard Mendana. The Marquesans take pride in their traditional culture with its songs and rhythmic haka dances, the decorative art of tattooing, carving, tapa cloth and cooking. Day 1 ~ Los Angeles/Tahiti Depart this afternoon for Tahiti. On arrival, you will be greeted with a fresh flower lei and transferred to the Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti. Today's flight takes you to Nuku Hiva, where you will be met and transferred by helicopter to the Keikahanui Pearl Lodge. Enjoy a full-day tour by 4WD to the valley of Hatiheu, a magnificent Marquesan village, nestled between impressive basaltic mountain spires, steeped in history and archaeology. Transfer by helicopter to the airport for your flight to Hiva Oa. You will be met and transferred by 4WD to the Hanakee Pearl Lodge. Included is a full-day tour to Puamau, a testament to the Marquesans’ archaeological heritage, to visit the Me’ae Te I'l Pona, a sacred site with magnificent stone structures and the largest tiki found in French Polynesia. Board your flight to Tahiti. This evening, depart for Los Angeles, arriving the following morning.
