Isle of Eriska Hotel, Spa and Island, Argyll, Scotland Vacations, Honeymoons and Luxury Travel Packages

The Isle of Eriska Hotel, Spa and Island is a unique combination of a 300 acre privately owned island, a 5 AA Red Star 25 bedroom hotel with world renowned 3 AA Rosette Restaurant and a stunning combination of outdoor activities and indoor sporting facilities with a full service Espa Spa

Living on your own private island is a dream to many however a stay at the Isle of Eriska Hotel, Spa and Island allows you to turn this fantasy into reality. Enjoy the unique levels of personal service, the award winning cuisine and the fantastic facilities of your own private retreat during your stay!

The Rooms

As with any older house the bedrooms all vary in shapes and sizes but all have the same facilities and amenities you would espect from a world class 5 star hotel.

In the main house there are two main categories of Bedrooms, deluxe- slightly larger and tending towards the front of the house and standard which are a little smaller and located towards the East of the house.

Beyond the main house in the surrounding gardens lie the spa suites and two bedroom cottage suites. These offer more privacy and seclusion but not at the expense of service or style as they also offer 24 hour room service and all other facilities. The rooms outide the main house also have a greater degree of space set in private gardens with their own hot tubs.

The Lounge

The public rooms at Eriska all exude comfort and the warmth of hospitality you would expect from a house of this era and yet do not over formalize the areas.

Open fireplaces dominate the ground floor none more so than in the hall where the fire burns constantly every day of the year. The main hall was wood paneled in 1913 with Burr Oak in an attempt to conceal the new wiring in the house. The Piano room is the first room entered from the front door and is light and bright as is the drawing room which has soft bright furnishing and sofas and chairs which would tempt any visitor to simply relax and set their mind at ease.

The Library has changed minimally since the turn of the century with an art deco fireplace with very risqué, in those days, figurines dressing the edges of the fireplace and a wonderful selection of whiskies, cocktails and house wines available throughout the day.

The Restaurant

Robert MacPherson, our Head Chef, joined the team at Eriska in 1987 and was immediately recognized with the award of 3 AA Rosettes and a mark of 7/10 in the good food guide.

The dining room is the amalagamation of four areas, firstly the morning room with views over the lawns to the south, secondly the business room which catches the morning sun then the butlers pantry which joins the two earlier rooms together and finally the conservatory which was added in 2002 with views under the boughs of the Oak planted the year the house was built.

A state-of-the-art Air Conditioning system insures and balanced temperature throughout the year and the policy of not resetting tables and insuring a similar location throughout your stay insures that you do not have any anxiety over your arrival to the dining room.

Outdoor Actitivies

Being based on an Island is a start giving us water as a boundary but it also gives us a great opportunity to offer a wide range of activities both indoor and outdoor.

The ethos behind Eriska has been to offer a wealth of opportunity with low usage of amenities allowing you to walk on the island without seeing another person, swim before breakfast in your own private pool or even drive down a fairway with no one to watch and score!

Eriska Golf

In 1994 Howard Swan first visited Eriska to establish the potential for golf at Eriska. He created a 10 year mission to introduce golf to Eriska and develop a facility which would eventually be an asset to the five star hotel. Initially it was a 9 hbole par 3 course built on the site of the disused Dairy herds fields.

Eriska Shooting and Fishing

Shooting and Fishing are synomynous with the lands of Scotland and arrangements can be made for Stalking on the local Kingairloch Estate.

Sea Fishing on the west coast has had some very successful seasons and trips in local boats can be arranged to track down deep sea fish. Alternatively if river and loch fishing is more in keeping then Inverawe Fisheries can offer equipment and tuition for the beginner or the opportunity to work the Beat on the river Awe again providing the season and the water levels in the river permit.

Water Sports

The west highlands are best seen from the sea and arrangements can be made for sailing trips in luxury yachts or alternatively cocktails watching the sun going down on one of the local motor vessels.

Eriska Tennis

Over 20 years ago we set about installing an En-Tous-Cas tennis court allowing it to be played within minutes of the rain stopping.Today although the court is aging it does offer the more energetic the opportunity to work off the afternoon tea before dinner. Raquets and balls are available from the Spa Reception.

Croquet at Eriska

No country House would be complete without the croquet lawn before it.Mallets, Balls and even the rules are available from reception.

Walking around the Island

Eriska itself is a 300 Acre Paradise for those simply wishing to wander. It is easy to do simply walk till you meet the sea, turn left or right and when you reach the bridge or the Pier simply head back to the main house. Alternatively pick up a map of the island and guide your self around using the white posts which mark the trails and stop off at the information points to learn about the flora, fauna and wildlife as you explore Eriska.

Indoor Activities

In deference to the desire for various sporting activities, the island to the north and west of the Big House has been carefully developed.

The Stables, beside the old formal garden, houses extensive facilities including a 17m Swimming Pool, Sauna, Steam Room, Spa, treatment rooms, gymnasium and a lounge and balcony with views over the golf facility.

Eriska Hotel Spa

The Espa Spa is located on the first floor of the stable building offering 3 airconditioned treatment rooms with a wide range of activities offered by the fully qualified therapists.

Eriska Hotel Gymnasium

The cardiovascular gymnasium offers views of the mountains of Kingairloch.Upstairs is the Balcony Bar with access to the first floor panoramic balcony overlooking the golf course and the Firth of Lorne. Next door is the Veranda Restaurant offering lunch from 12.30 - 1.30pm with a combination of light healthy snacks and the best local produce.

Swimming Pool

The 17m pool is ozone filtered and kept at about 30c.Build in 1994 the indoor Swimming Pool is housed in the old stable building which would initially have been used for the housing of the carts and carriages of the main house but latterly were the working farm which fed the hotel most of its dairy produce.

Explore The Island

There is always a magic about an island and Eriska is no exception.

Nestling on the eastern side of one of the world's most celebrated rift valleys, and born of the cataclysmic upheavals of more than 600 million years ago, the formation of the island is largely of schist and slate with the lower ground to the west as a raised beach from the island. The partly submerged Crannog, or fortified dwelling, dating from the Bronze Age around 200 B.C and situated some 200 metres in the channel to the east of the bridge, marks the earliest recorded human history of the island.

The Island Wildlife

As far as wildlife is concerned there is no limit to the species you may observe in their natural habitats.Seals anywhere round the island, Otters particularly from Rowan Tree Point and to the West. Badger sets are numerous and we have marked one on the eastern slopes. Roe Deer can be encountered at any time, and even on occasion Red Deer.

If you fortunate you may see a Golden eagle soaring over Morvern to the west. The heronry is located in the tall trees to the north at Rowan Tree Point but expect to see herons everywhere. Sea birds proliferate particularly towards the southern tip of the island at shell point.

Eriska Car Tours

We have made a selection of varying and contrasting car tours, which you may undertake within one day from the Isle of Eriska. They are only given as suggestions, and points of interest along the way are noted for your interest although many more may exist. The office can guide you towards items, which will be within your specific fields of interest.

All distances and times are only given as a guideline and are by no means 100% accurate. Distances are given in miles to correspond with the British road signs. Please note that for the Mull tours it is essential to book you car on to specific ferries in order to ensure your safe return on time.
