Prestonfield Hotel Resosrt, Edinburgh Vacations, Honeymoons and Luxury Travel Packages

A ravishing house in a marvellous setting, Prestonfield is further enriched by its long and colourful history. The Dick-Cunynghams, who owned the estate for over 300 years, were one of Scotland’s foremost merchant families. Prominent in the civic and social life of the capital, they remained staunch Catholics, supporters of the Jacobite cause, and patrons of the arts. Prestonfield still provides a compelling testament to their wealth, influence and indulgent fascination with the finer things in life.

Food & Drink
Afternoon Tea
A traditional afternoon tea is a Prestonfield tradition; after all, tea has been taken here since the 1680’s when our neighbour King Charles II made it fashionable through the court at Holyrood!
In summer enjoy a traditional afternoon tea in our gothic Tea House, on the lawns surrounded by fragrant old-fashioned roses or as an afternoon treat on the terrace. Winter at Prestonfield brings its compensations with the opportunity to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea by the roaring log fires of Prestonfield’s inviting Yellow, Tapestry or Leather rooms.
Private Dining
Prestonfield boasts four splendid rooms for private dining, accommodating, in highly individual style, anything from a power breakfast to a midnight feast, from a celebratory lunch for eight to a gala dinner for eighty or more.
Garden Room - This bright, airy and elegantly decorated ground floor reception room has French doors opening on to the south lawn.It accommodates up to 50 guests for lunch or dinner.
Italian Room - Boasting one of the most famous and memorable interiors at Prestonfield, this ravishing private dining-room is decorated with murals by The Norries. Up to 28 guests can be accommodated for lunch or dinner
Stuart Room - Lined in boldly striped fabric, and furnished with a suite of antique French gothic thrones, this dramatic private dining-room in the very oldest part of the house accommodates up to 16 lunch or dinner guests
The Whisky Room - Antler furniture, deep sofas and even deeper glasses of Malt are the order of the day in this clubbable retreat hung with a rare collection of antique equestrian portraits. Our even rarer collection of sensational Malt whiskies could keep you occupied for some time when you enjoy some time in our Whisky Room
The Yellow Room - In this tiny gilded salon – all tactile golden velvet walls & gilded chinoiserie black lacquer - you will probably find a glass of Champagne or very dry Martini just too irresistible as you perch on the rather racy black crocodile sofas. Commandeer a sofa and order a drink from one of our black-kilted staff and enjoy some time here at the heart of the Prestonfield experience.
Tapestry Room - Created by the same craftsmen who worked on the nearby Palace of Holyrood House in the 1680’s, Prestonfield’s baroque Tapestry Room with it’s bacchanalian plaster ceiling is probably Scotland’s most theatrical drawingroom and we hope that enjoying time here you will feel like Royalty! The Mortlake tapestries and some of the gilded furniture have been here for 300 hundred years, but the room is fun not stuffy so we’ll hope you will stay around for a while and enjoy the surroundings with sumptuous sofas, flickering candles, piles of books and a log fire roaring in the most extraordinary fireplace!
The Leather Room - Maybe not quite as racy as it sounds! Prestonfield Leather room is an intimate dramatic sittingroom panelled with gilded 17th-century leather from Cordoba that was installed her in 1687. Install yourself here by the log fire of this charming hideaway with a book, drink or both and you may want to be here for some time too.
Terrace - Prestonfield’s grand first floor terrace looks out over the entrance front of Prestonfield and is the ideal place for a summer drink, lunch or afternoon tea shaded by Prestonfield’s signature red canvas umbrellas. Surrounded by historic stone balustrades and pots of box topiary, you’ll find it an ideal spot for drinks before or after dinner at Rhubarb – the restaurant at Prestonfield too whilst you enjoy great views over the lawns, gardens and grounds.
Restaurant - The pick of the bunch is Rhubarb. Sue Lawrence, Scotland on Sunday
Rhubarb, the hotel’s restaurant is so exquisite you could spend an entire weekend lazing around without even venturing out into the city. Gareth MacLean, The Guardian
Rhubarb is James Thomson's latest destination restaurant - and the most opulent to date!
The Tea House - Prestonfield’s gothic tea house sits among banks of voluptuous old-fashioned roses and neat-clipped topiaries in Prestonfield’s formal rose garden, where this perfect hideaway is ideal for afternoon tea, for drinks or simply a place to escape with a book. If you must work, then you’ll find that with wi-fi your laptop will work perfectly too and the Tea House creates a great space for informal meetings or break-outs from conference or work sessions.
