(of Shakespeare's Macbeth fame and the late Queen Mother's childhood home). Originally a hunting lodge, the castle's oldest wing dates back to 1570. Still, there are no trade-offs here on modern comforts and style. Largely rebuilt in the 19th century, the home's plush interior features ultramodern conveniences - recessed lighting, heated floors, air-conditioning, satellite TV, a sauna and steam room. Its well-tended 40-acre grounds include one clay and one grass tennis court, spectacular formal and woodland gardens, a heated pool and its own 18-hole golf course - for those who prefer shanking their drives in private. Meikloeur Castle is indeed the perfect setting to play lord or lady of the manor.

Eight bedrooms sleep up to 16, or 18 with sitting room converted to a bedroom. Second Floor: bedrooms 1 and 2 (both Queens, 63"), one with private bathroom across the hall (tub & shower), and one with access to steam shower and sauna (tub & shower). Third Floor: bedroom 3 (King, 71") with ensuite bathroom (tub & shower), bedroom 4 (Twins, 35") and bedroom 5, both with private bathrooms down the hall (tub & shower). Main Tower: bedroom 6 (Queen, 63") with ensuite toilet and sink. Old Tower: bedrooms 7 and 8 (Queen, 63" and King, 71"), both sharing a full four piece bathroom.
