Fireweed Station Inn is a deluxe Alaskan accommodation. The log building was originally built in 1946 as a remote hunting and fishing lodge accessible only by the Alaska Railroad. You’ll be reminded of this railroad heritage as you watch or hear the periodic trains pass by. Located only minutes from Talkeetna, the setting feels as remote as it did in 1946. Although one can now drive to the Inn, the nearby tracks still service the Alaska Railroad.
The new owners took on the restoration of the building in 1993. Every effort was made to re-use the original construction materials. The interior of the lodge had become literally black with smoke from kerosene lamps and woodstoves. Every knot-free Douglas Fir wall and ceiling board was taken down, planed, sanded and replaced after plumbing, wiring, sound deadening and fireproofing was installed.
Despite the luxurious accommodation Fireweed Station has become today, it is simply not possible to visit here without feeling the sense you are on the frontier of 1940’s Alaska. Alaska has only some 300 National Historic Register sites. The owners are proud that the Fireweed Station Inn are among them - so proud that the restoration project took a decade complete.
The owners of the Fireweed Station Inn offer a true Talkeetna Alaskan lodge experience, combining authentic history, gourmet dining, and modern quality. Fireweed Station can prepare all your meals, offers high speed internet connections in every room, and can even accommodate meetings, weddings and retreats in fine style. A buy-out can provide your family with up to six bedrooms for a private Talkeetna vacation haven.
The Fireweed Station Inn can be the base for many adventures in Talkeetna. The historic village of Talkeetna is nestled at the base of Mount McKinley (Denali), North America's tallest peak. Talkeetna has an outstanding panoramic view of the Alaska Range that can be enjoyed and photographed from several places as you wander through this town and discover what this unique location has to offer. Flightseeing, fishing, riverboat tours, and hiking, are all available when basing adventures out of the historic Fireweed Station Inn.
