Steve Bowhay started Yard Doctor Landscape in the early 1980s. When he and Cindy married in 1988, they started building greenhouses and growing their flowers locally.
Together, Steve and Cindy have built the Yard Doctor and Glacier Gardens into thriving local businesses that offer employment opportunities for many people in Juneau.
Local gardeners are always confident that the purchases they make at the nursery are of healthy, hardy stock that will thrive in Southeast's wet environment. They also appreciate all the gracious assistance offered by Steve, Cindy and their employees.
Many local gardeners also make sure that Glacier Gardens Rainforest Adventure is one of their first stops when showing visitors around Juneau. What a wonderful way to showcase the beauty of Southeast Alaska |

Juneau, Alaska – Juneau hosts a world-class music Festival, making Juneau not only an arts center for the Southeast region of Alaska, but a city unlike any other. Imagine reeling in a 30-pound salmon by day, and taking in the music of Chopin or Beethoven performed by world-class musicians by night. Or, trekking on a glacier via helicopter, then dancing to a daring and innovative New Orleans brass band or a scorching San Francisco blues band. Juneau offers the setting. Juneau Jazz & Classics elevates the possibilities.
The ninteenth annual Juneau Jazz & Classics Festival takes place May 20-28, 2005. The event features nine days of soul-lifting, blues-chasing, live music by way of concerts, workshops, cruises and free events. |

Perseverance Theatre was founded in 1979 and, a quarter century later, has emerged as Alaska’s flagship professional theatre, serving upwards of 20,000 artists and audiences annually with professional classical and contemporary productions, extensive education programs, statewide tours, and playreading festivals. In 2002, Perseverance Theatre was recognized as one of seven leading national theater companies for its groundbreaking artistic work and the unique relationship it holds to its community.
Recent productions have included Mary Zimmerman’s METAMORPHOSES (2004), set in a 17,000 gallon pool of water; William Shakespeare’s MACBETH (2004), reinterpreted through the lens of Southeast Alaska’s indigenous Tlingit culture and performed by an all-Alaska Native cast of actors; the World Premiere of WINESBURG, based on the novel by Sherwood Anderson (2002); and MOBY DICK (2001), an original work which fused Herman Melville with the whaling traditions of the Iñupiat people, still practiced on the Arctic Ocean today. In addition, Paula Vogel’s 1998 Pulitzer Prize-winning play HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE was written and developed at Perseverance Theatre. |
