Garberville, Redway: Garberville is Humboldt County's gateway to the southern entrance of the famous Avenue of the Giants, and mere minutes from the grandeur of Humboldt Redwoods State park. Just a few miles south are Richardson Grove State Park and Benbow Lake State Recreation Area. To the west is the rugged King Range National Conservation Area on California's "Lost Coast."
Understandably so, this area makes a perfect launching point for your nature-based vacation, offering supplies, lodging, dining, fuel and more. Stay at the historic Benbow Inn. This luxurious Inn includes an elegant restaurant, golf course, RV Park and is close to Benbow Lake.
The Avenue of the Giants: a 31-mile section of Hwy paralleling Hwy 101, courses through Humboldt Redwoods State Park, a 53,000 acre preserve, with hiking, camping, and fishing and a great visitors/interpretive center located in Weott - (707) 946-2263 This scenic drive offers plenty of pull off spots for hikes in the groves and gift shops.
Why not rent a cabin in one of the resorts that line the Avenue. Dean Creek Resort offers cabins and camping. Miranda Gardens, a tranquil retreat or Redcrest Resort which also also offers full service RV sites. If camping outside of Humboldt Redwoods State park is in your plan, anyone of of the following choices will work for you: Giant Redwoods Rv & Campground - family oriented, and pets welcome - right on the Eel River, Benbow Lake State Recreation Area, Richardson Grove, more family camping in the redwoods. Drive through a redwood tree. The Shrine Drive-Thru Tree is located just off Hwy 101 at the Myers flat exit. Count the rings of history, or take the kids through a two-story tree house - (707) 943-1658

Shelter Cove: Plenty of outdoor recreation - take a hike on the Lost Coast with beautiful tide pools and Black Sand Beach. Camp, fish, or stay at one of the local resorts or B&B's most with oceanfront rooms and suites. There is also an airstrip, and the Shelter Cove Golf Course available to the public.
Shelter Cove is an access point to California's Lost Coast, Black Sands Beach and the Lost Coast Hiking Trail, popular for day hikes or backpacking. Or visit the Cape Mendocino Lighthouse, recently relocated and restored for viewing - (707) 986-7112
Southern Humboldt Area: Includes many summer events such as the Rodeo in the Redwoods and the Redwood Run in June, Reggae on the River in August, and many festivals, plays, and holiday themed events year-round.
