Wichita is the largest city in Kansas and is located in the heart of the United States. The city is located right at the point where the Big and Little Arkansas River join together. Wichita hosts over 3.5 million visitors annually.
Wichita is an eclectic city with some of the greatest arts and entertainment in the Midwest. Attracting the talents of celebrities such as Luciano Pavarotti, former President George H.W. There are plenty of reasons for visitors to return to Wichita. New developments, renovations and openings of hotels, off-site meeting venues and outdoor shopping districts abound around every corner. This past year the city has seen new districts including Plazzio, Regency Lakes and The WaterFront offer new choices in accommodations, shopping, dining and entertainment. Attraction renovations included the opening of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, Cargill Learning Center at the Sedgwick County Zoo and Old Cowtown Museum’s Visitor Center. The Historic Delano District added a new roundabout with a clock tower and its shopping and dining establishments have enjoyed increased traffic to the area.
Old Cowtown Museum
A unique open-air living history museum, re-creating Wichita and the southern plains from 1865-1880.
Located on 25 acres off the Chisholm Trail on the banks of the Arkansas River. A nationally recognized and accredited living history site. Old Cowtown Museum gives visitors a true taste of the myths, truths and romance of the "Old West" and America's frontier.
Forty furnished buildings including 26 original structures, artifacts, live animals and working farm, combined with costumed, living history re-enactors authenticate a true Old West town. Visit Fritz Snitzler's Saloon and enjoy food, snacks, a cold sarsaparilla and soak in the surroundings. Old Cowtown is also home to many special events you won't want to miss.
Guests enter through the new Visitors Center where the S. G. Bastian & Sons Mercantile provides a wonderful shopping experience. This beautiful, spacious building, complete with fireplace, is available for rental.
By 2009, Wichita’s downtown skyline will be changing with the opening of Wichita WaterWalk, a $130 million retail and entertainment district that has its first major tenant Gander Mountain and soon will add the Saddle Ranch Chop House restaurant. Additionally, the opening of the Sedgwick County Arena in early 2009 will provide Wichita a first class multi-purpose entertainment venue with 15,000 seats. The area surrounding the arena will also take shape with additional new shopping, dining and entertainment options.
All of these new developments continue to increase Wichita’s appeal to residents and visitors whether it’s an extended weekend, business trip, group tour or family vacation.
