Blantyre Hotel

Itself no longer a private house, Blantyre is perhaps an even better thing-a country-house hotel dispensing the kind of service, cuisine and décor that only luxury tempered by good taste can bring into being.

Blantyre Hotel Accommodation

With its lovely leaded glass windows, richly burnished woods and luxurious fabrics, the inside of Blantyre is exactly what you would expect upon seeing the outside of the building. In the Main House, there are overstuffed chairs, fresh flowers, a light-filled music room, and rooms for private dining — all designed with the comfort of our guests in mind. The heart of the house, the baronial Main Hall on the first floor, is an eclectic mix of period pieces and treasured heirlooms specially assembled under owner Ann Fitzpatrick Brown and her mother Jane's discerning eyes.

Eight exquisite guest bedrooms and suites, many with fireplaces, all with their own unique personality, are located on the second floor.

Paterson Suite
As befits accommodations named after Blantyre's original owner, the Paterson Suite offers grandeur of a bygone era. Decorated in soft shades of cream and celadon green, rich damask covers the walls, the sumptuous sofa and overstuffed chairs. The unusually spacious bedroom includes an enormous, and enormously inviting, four-poster bed. Nine shuttered windows keep the world out or open to a tranquil scene of lush lawns shaded by towering trees, a view you're sure to enjoy. An adjoining sitting room is the perfect place to unwind with a working fireplace, a desk tucked beautifully in a bay window, a daybed and easy chairs for reading, or drifting gently off.

Often requested as a bridal suite, the Paterson Suite has two bathrooms. The larger bath has a soaking tub, marble hand basin, dressing table and a whimsical flowered loveseat. The second bath has a walk-in shower and a pretty flowered chandelier.

Crimson Suite
A favorite of many guests, the Crimson Suite is richly decorated in shades of cream beige, crimson and burgundy, with fine damasks and chintz. In the bedroom, a cloud-soft, queen-sized bed is perfectly placed in the beautiful bay of windows and flanked by a handsome desk with a wonderful view. (Ann loves desks by windows.) In the beautiful but unpredictable Berkshires, there will often be nights when you'll be happy to bask in the warmth of the burgundy tiled fireplace.

In the dressing room, a mirrored vanity and delicate stool are well positioned so you can take advantage of natural or artificial light, whichever suits your needs best. An extra-wide cushioned bench piled high with pillows is the perfect spot to curl up and unwind before dressing for dinner or anytime at all. The bathroom features vibrant wallpaper above the tiles, a soaking bath and a separate walk-in shower. Outdoors, a private balcony with chairs and chaises longues offers the promise of sun, solitude and breakfast outdoors.

Laurel Suite
The spacious rooms of The Laurel Suite are decorated with Jane Fitzpatrick's – Ann's beautiful, ever gracious mom – favorite flowered wallpaper. The comfy, queen-size bed sits within a big bay window which has flowing silk curtains and shutters that may be drawn closed when you want extra sleep. In the sitting area, the rosy pink fireplace tiles echo the color of the sisters' dresses in the painting that hangs above the mantle. An overly comfortable sofa and two antique chairs encircle the marble-topped coffee table, a perfect place for late night snacks or early morning newspaper reading.

A separate dressing room contains a glass-covered, tulle-skirted vanity and pretty tufted stool as well as the chaise longue so necessary for lounging around. Oriental rugs cover the parquet floors throughout these two rooms. The bathroom has a soaking tub with a glass enclosed, walk-in shower and marble sink.

Blue Room
One of the wonderful things about Blantyre is that every room has a distinct personality all its own. The Blue Room – with its soft blue color, painted furniture, and richly curtained and ruffled double windows with a grand view of our rolling lawns – provides a soothing and peaceful retreat from a hectic day.

The pretty pale-colored walls of sky blue are echoed in the ruffled curtains made by our very own Martha. Two overstuffed blue velvet chairs sit in front of the fireplace. In fact, the only blue luggage racks to be found in all of Blantyre, are in this spacious bedroom with its beautiful four poster cream-colored king-size bed. Be sure to seek out the blue "hide and seek" wallpaper that decorates the full bath, with a walk-in shower, soaking tub and marble sink.

Corner Room
The Corner Room has been lovingly furnished. The original daffodil yellow tiles still decorate the fireplace and drive the distinctive look of this spacious room. You'll find an elegant and inviting four-poster, queen-size bed and comfortable armchairs just asking you to sink down and really relax.

Special touches include creamy yellow and muted green wallpaper cleverly hung to simulate a garden. Much of the original reproduction French furniture – very fashionable in the very early 1900's – ornately carved mirrors, wall sconces and light fixtures complete this gracious room setting. The bathroom is quite large, with a soaking tub, an amazing, separate walk-in double-shower and marble sink.

Toile Room
The Toile Room is really a cluster of cozy rooms. Each room has more than its fair share of whimsy and charm, most are decorated in rosy pink toile and papered in classic country scenes from Pierre Deux. An arched entryway leads you to a canopied queen-size bed, completely encircled in full flowing, sheer Italian fabric.

Through the little hallway that follows, you'll find a small but sweet sitting room, surprisingly fully furnished with oversized, overstuffed armchairs, a handy footstool and even a desk. On the other side of the cozy little hall, there is a separate bathroom with a tub/shower combination and a shell shaped hand basin, in keeping with the delightful surroundings.

Bouquet Room
An inviting space, the Bouquet Room is as fresh and friendly as a just-picked bunch of meadow flowers. A lovely yellow rose paper lines the walls, luscious cream-colored, quilted bedspreads made into draperies – we added the fringe – fall to the floor in thick, full folds, and moss green carpeting is soft underfoot.

The comfy, queen-size four-poster bed features creamy bedding and a golden dust ruffle. A writing desk is close at hand should you wish to tell friends about your Berkshires adventure. The bathroom has a tub and shower combination and is decorated with another pretty floral wallpaper.

Ribbon Room
If you have been looking for a cozy retreat, you may choose to look no further than the Ribbon Room. Sumptuous beige damask curtains with dotted Swiss underneath frame the windows, intertwined lavender and taupe ribbons create the luscious wallpaper pattern.

Fine furnishings include a handsome highboy, a writing desk with an inlaid ebony leather top, overstuffed armchairs – close by are lights you can actually read by – and a king-size bed whose brass headboard has been polished to a lustrous shine. The bathroom has a shower and tub combination with soft rose wallpaper.

Blantyre Hotel Dining

Dining is a very special event at Blantyre. Late every afternoon, the Main House undergoes a lovely transformation as we prepare for the delightful dining experience to come that evening. Linens are brought out, tables are set with sterling silver, fine china, crystal, and fresh flowers. Beautiful music fills the air and candles are lit. Under the knowing eye of Chef Christopher Brooks, the kitchen is a hive of activity as the finest ingredients are used to create a memorable dining experience.

When you arrive, you can enjoy a pre-dinner glass of Champagne and canapés on the covered terrace or in the Main Hall. Or sample one of our rich red wines in the Music Room. Then adjourn to the dining room where your delicious entrée will be served by our gracious staff.

Should your evening plans include a performance at Tanglewood or Jacob's Pillow, you may wish to postpone dessert. Upon your return, coffee, an assortment of cheeses and a beautifully prepared dessert can be served in the Music Room.

In keeping with the setting, we request gentlemen wear a jacket and tie. We also offer 24-hour room service. To see a sampling of menus, and wines from our cellar, please click below.
