Wilderness Adventures
Summer Adventure
Equestrian Excursions Time to cowboy up. From spectacular views of the legendary Blackfoot River to Jones' Pond and the endless conifer forests, our horseback adventures offer a wide-eyed gulp of the Montana wilderness.
Legendary Fly-Fishing There's almost nothing in life that rivals the feeling of a hefty trout striking your fly, and the ensuing fight, headshakes and all. With that in mind, we'd like to welcome you to a slice of fly-fishing heaven. The Resort at Paws Up is an angler's retreat that's located within the golden triangle of western trout fishing. It boasts a creel-full of legendary rivers on property or nearby—including the Blackfoot, Bitterroot, Missouri, Rock Creek, Clark Fork and Tomahawk Creek. So whether you're checking off a few more Montana rivers, or are ready to pioneer into some true trout wilderness, this is the place for you.
River Adventures The Blackfoot River is legendary. We've got seven miles of it right on The Resort. In addition to all the fabulous fishing, this vast and unspoiled river has an unforgettable landscape including cliffs, sandy beaches, raft and kayak access points, perfect picnic areas and exhilarating rapids.
ATV Tours You'll scale mountains like they're molehills, slice through streams, power through brush, and even cruise through a ghost town. The backdrop is gorgeous, the pace is moderate, and the exhilaration is unforgettable.
Shooting Sports Sporting Clays is a challenging, wildly fun, and competitive clay target game that simulates actual field hunting. Shoot on specially designed courses that resemble real-life field conditions; the lure of the game lies in its incredible realism. At Paws Up, our Sporting Clays installation features a 12-station course that throws a diversity of aerial target presentations. The clays cross, climb, zip in, fly out, or streak high overhead at speeds and angles accurately simulating the flight patterns of game birds.
Mountain Biking Imagine exploring an impeccably preserved ghost town and hundreds of miles of traversable old logging roads by mountain bike. Your adventure can be as challenging or relaxing as you wish—it's all up to you. Happy Trails.
Lake Activities One of a half dozen lakes in the Clearwater Valley known as the "Chain of Lakes," Seeley Lake is a 1,025-acre aquatic paradise for water sports aficionados. Your inner child will come blasting out as you zip around on your two-passenger Polaris personal watercraft. Go for a joy ride in our 19-foot Bayliner powerboat. Or strap on your skis and show the local Seeley citizens a rooster tail or two.
Golf A Round in the Rockies: Just because you're nestled in the middle of the vast, wild and untamed Blackfoot Region of the Rocky Mountains doesn't mean you have to go without a dignified round of eighteen. The 'Double Arrow' Golf Course, hidden on the edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, is a gem of a course located less than 20 minutes from Paws Up. All 18 holes are carved among gentle rolling hills and towering Ponderosa pines, offering breathtaking views of the Swan Mountains to the east and the Mission Mountains to the west.

Winter Adventure
Snowmobiling The RPMs race as well as your heartbeat as you blaze a trail through virgin powder amidst towering pines and before an audience of curious animal onlookers. This is snowmobiling Montana-style and it doesn't get any better. The crisp, clear days add a clarity to your senses you've probably never experienced before. With your eyes wide open–as well as your jaw–you'll soak up the majesty of the biggest sky in the world. The Garnet Mountain Range will serve as the ultimate picturesque backdrop as you explore Garnet, Montana's best-preserved Ghost Town. In the winter, Garnet is only accessible by snowmobile, so the only tracks you're likely to see (other than your own) belong to the resident wildlife.
Winter ATV What happens when you take a four-wheel ATV and replace the tires with foot-wide snow treads? You redline the fun meter. There are many ways to see the 37,000 acres that make up The Resort at Paws Up, but none of them bring out the inner child like a winter ATV ride. This one-person vehicle gives new meaning to the term off-roading! No trail? No problem. Your winter ATV will go where few have tread before. See what the excitement is all about by setting out on a guided Winter ATV Tour. This exhilarating sport has yet to be discovered by the masses. You'll be one of the first to experience ATV riding, as it truly should be enjoyed: in the fresh powder. You'll see the grandeur and panoramic beauty of Paws Up, as you've never seen it before: from the saddle of this truly “All-Terrain Vehicle.”
Dog Sledding It should probably come as no surprise that The Resort at Paws Up's signature winter adventure is centered around man's best friend. We've all heard of horsepower, but few have ever experienced paw power. Imagine being pulled by a dozen drop-dead gorgeous Siberian Huskies through the wilds of Montana; all at the foot of the Garnet Mountains–one of the most handsome ranges in the Rockies. The Blackfoot Valley is home to some of the best dogsled racing in the entire United States. In fact, four-time IDITAROD (the biggest, most popular dog sledding race in the world) champion Doug Swingley lives and trains here as well as dozens of his best local competition.
Holiday Sleigh Rides Like the Pied Piper's magical flute, the jingling bells of the Paws Up Winter Stage (known in some parts of the world as a Sleigh) has an uncanny ability to lure kids (even the balding ones over 35) from all corners of the Ranch. Join the Paws Up Wranglers and their majestic Percheron Draft Horses as they ring in the winter with an enchanting horse-drawn sleigh ride through frosted forests and over powdery hills. You'll travel as Kris Kringle wishes he could–all while enjoying scenery that can't be matched even by the North Pole. And while your mind is devouring a smorgasbord of tasty historical and naturalistic facts–told in storybook style by your Sleigh Guide–your palate will be treated to gourmet hot chocolate, exquisite coffee and delicious hot cider.
Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing
Cross Country Skiing With reliable snow pack and a history of Norwegian and Swedish settlers, cross-country skiing could practically be considered the state sport of Montana. Your Paws Up guide will outfit you with the best equipment, and lead you through the expertly groomed trails of the Lubrecht Experimental Forest as well as The Resort itself. Imagine gliding your way under a canopy of conifers freshly dusted in white powder. The Paws Up guides can demonstrate and teach every aspect of cross-country skiing, from skating to classic. Your guide will also treat you to an insightful narrative covering the history of the area, as well as fascinating naturalist wisdom you'll remember for a lifetime.
Alpine Skiing/Snowboarding For alpine 'snow riding' enthusiasts, several ski resorts are located within a short radius of Paws Up. Montana Snow Bowl, boasting over 2,600 vertical feet of terrain is a scenic 50-minute drive from The Resort. "Snow-Bowl" as locals call it, is a favorite destination of skiers in the University town of Missoula. A little further away, and well worth the 2 hour drive is The Big Mountain Ski Resort in Whitefish. Overlooking the massive alpine peaks of Glacier National Park, Big Mountain offers over 15 lifts and every type of terrain imaginable.
Snowshoeing The days of walking on those clumsy, funny-looking tennis rackets are over. Great strides in technological equipment as well as the desire for increased cardiovascular activities have made snowshoeing America's fastest growing winter activity. The 100-mile plus trail system at Paws Up will provide excellent opportunities to explore this Rocky Mountain winter wonderland. If you've never tried snowshoeing, now is your chance to do it in The Last Best Place. The bottom line is, if you can hike, you can snowshoe. Your guide will outfit you with the best snowshoes for the terrain, ensuring your experience will be a memorable one. You'll find serene spots and panoramic vantage points that could never be reached by hiking alone. Stand still and Mother Nature will reward you with a wildlife show few have ever witnessed.
