Florence Mill

On national register. Under renovation, the original Winter Quarters Mill timbers date from 1846 and the Mormon Trail. The mill was re-established in 1857 during the Gold Rush passing through Nebraska Territory.


Freedom Park Navy Museum

Home of the USS Hazard (Minesweeper) and the USS Marlin (training submarine), along with other artifacts. Partially Handicapped Accessible.



General Crook House

Award-winning authentically restored home of frontiersman General George Crook, Commander, Dept. of the Platte, who defended Ponca Chief Standing Bear in landmark 1879 trial. National Register, Italianate, 19th Century furnishings.


Gerald R. Ford Birth Site & Gardens

Memorial to the 38th President of the United States, born in Omaha. A Kiosk modeled after the original house's turret contains birth site information and presidential mementos. A colonnade and Rose Garden.


Historic Florence Bank & Depot Museums

Oldest bank in Nebraska (1856). Displays on early Florence history and bank manager's living quarters upstairs. Depot is from 1888 with 1890 caboose and railroad displays. Depot Accessible.


Joslyn Castle

On the National Register of Historic Places, first historic landmark Arboretum of Nebraska. This 1903 Scottish four story, 35-room house designed by John McDonald on original plated 5.5 acre. Conservatory designed by Jens Jensen.


Lewis & Clark Landing

The 23-acre landing provides a variety of options to relax and enjoy the Missouri River. See Lewis & Clark Interpretive exhibits and the second largest labor monument in the United States;


Malcolm X Birthsite

The state of Nebraska has honored Malcolm X by erecting an official marker on the site of his birth. The 12-acre developing site is open to the public. Please call before visiting.



Mormon Trail Center at Historic Winter Quarters

Visitor’s Center and Museum depicts the 1846-1860 migration of 90,000 pioneers to the Rocky Mountains. Displays include full sized log cabin, covered wagon, oxen and handcart. Optional guided tours.


Nebraska State Historical Society

Adjacent to the Gerald R Ford birth site. Conservation division of the Nebraska State Historical Society. Not open to the public - open by appointment with conservators only.



Prospect Hill Cemetery

Omaha’s pioneer cemetery (1858). Here lie many who gave their names to Omaha streets, Nebraska towns and counties, etc. The famous and infamous. many interesting monuments. Special section for soldiers from Fort Omaha.


Strategic Air & Space Museum

See history come alive with 300,000 sq ft of space, including WWII and Cold War aircraft and artifacts, as well as traveling exhibits, library, theater, flight simulators, snack bar and more. Accessible.


The Durham Museum

Explore the history of the region in the beautifully restored Union Station. The Museum boasts a variety of permanent and traveling exhibits, an impressive lecture series, and many special events such as Christmas at Union Station. 


Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts

International artist-in-residence program located in the historic Old Market area. Artists from around the world live and work in the second-floor studios. Bemis Center galleries feature contemporary visual art exhibitions.


El Museo Latino

First Latino art and history museum and cultural center in the Midwest. View world class permanent and traveling exhibitions featuring local, national and international Latino art and culture.


Joslyn Art Museum

Nebraska's largest art museum, and one of the "10 Best Art Museums for Kids" in the nation (Child magazine). Permanent collections from antiquity to the present, with an emphasis on 19th- and 20th-century European and American art.


Loves Jazz & Arts Center

An 8000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility featuring the Preston Love gallery, a performing arts area, exhibition space and a gift shop along with classrooms and administration space. Accessible.


Nebraska Jewish Historical Society & Riekes Museum

History and culture of the Jewish people of Nebraska and Western Iowa, displayed in photographs and exhibits throughout the J.C.C. The Riekes Museum, a re-creation of a neighborhood "shul," includes a timeline history of area synagogues.


Union Pacific Railroad Museum

Railroad artifacts and interactive exhibits chronicle the history of America - from construction of the first transcontinental railroad of the nation to our current high-tech rail transportation system.


Valley Historical Society Museum

Two buildings and a UP caboose house, Mastodon bones, Indian relics, railroad and pioneer memorabilia, dishes, dolls, clothing and more. Accessible.
